After 9 years of ownership our faithful "suspiciously cheap" XC90 2.5T has recently had the ABS module fail, making me accept it's time to let it go. Still in use – registered, driving and the brakes work, but the dash light means it probably won't pass rego (early April) and I can't see myself fixing it this time.
Huge thread detailing my ownership (since 2017), in which one of my last statements was:
Regardless of the drama over these years and 29 pages (!) of OzVolvo thread, it's been a fantastic vehicle and now I can only think of it as a faithful old friend. We've put at least 80,000km on it and it continues to move us about in comfort and safety, and the shape has aged quite gracefully IMO. It's absolutely my kind of vehicle.
It's safe to say I have been very fond of this old bus.
I will be hugely sad to let it go after all the effort, but it's time.
- ~312,000 km
- Engine replaced from a 2009 S60, replaced VVT solenoids
- Replaced steering angle sensor
- S60 sport steering wheel, front seats
- Rego until early April (4th) so can be moved easily
- Battery is about 1 year old
- Fuel pump replaced in about 2018
- 18" wheels with Hankook tyres (no more than 5000km on them at a guess)
- Subframe re-bushed with iPd poly inserts
- Front suspension replaced (Sachs + springs from FCP, new strut mounts, bumps etc)
- Fancy door lock pins from iPd
- Spare auto gearbox and other parts
- DICE diagnostic tool
- Rubber boot mats, tow bar plug
Faults:
- ABS module not communicating
- Leaky steering rack in spite of rebuild
- Noisy angle gear
- Stereo will not turn on (suspect capacitor failure in ICM)
- Parking sensor failed, so no parking beeps
- Split in drivers bolster
- General wear and tear to body
