  • XC60 2018 Aircon Evaporator replacement in Sydney

Hi all! First time posting. I've got a quote of $3500 to replace the leaking evaporator from the dealer. I's for XC60 2018 model. It was showing the usual symptoms like weak airflow on one side and not as cold as the other side. Also unbearable if the outside temp is high. It's been re-gassed at the dealer for a temporary fix since I still wanted to shop around for a better price.

Back in 2021, there was a leaking hose issue that caused pretty much the same symptoms. The dealer repaired it under the warranty but this time they wouldn't offer goodwill repair but just a little discount for the cost and promised to get it done in a day.. I've heard that it's a massive job.

Has anyone have an experience replacing their xc60 evaporator replaced? If so, mind sharing or recommending a reliable volvo mechanic? I'm a big fan of reading Google reviews to narrow down the finalist for any service but since it's a big $ to spend I thought I would ask around first.

It's a massive job but can be done in a day. It's also a known fault but Volvo wipe their hands of it. The price isn't bad but you could ask Stu at Voltek to do it. Or if you feel like coming for a drive to Adelaide….

Hi volvoMike,

Wow I knew it was a time consuming job and dashboard needs to be taken out but it's actually first time seeing what it's like. Much appreciated for the pics. Looking at voltek's reviews, he's got some religious like followers customers I mean. Great. I'll ring him on Monday and have a quick chat to get a quote.

On a side note, I've been taking the car to the same Volvo dealer for each annual service. Despite their price it was fine until some issues come up. For an example, they've been struggling to fix this suspension warning message from dash even after trying everything they could including getting new parts from overseas. It's like burning the whole bush to kill one rabbit. Master technician seems to be confident for each diagnostic he does but nothing seems to work lol.

Yes, I've search a few forums and unfortunately lots of xc60 owners had to spend thousands dollars for the same problem.

Anyway, thanks for the offer haha. If it was cold winter driving down to Adelaide could've been an option. :
