Hi new here and not really used forums before.

Just bought the same 240 model I had as my first car and it has a radio just sitting under the ashtray. Any tips on where or what type of frame or support I need to fix it more permanently in that space. Also, has anyone moved radio up to the space next to the clock?

The radio is designed to be in that location on your model.

But I would agree it needs to be fixed properly. Take off the plastic side panels, you should be able to find a location to screw the aluminium radio frame to the centre console bracket, then the radio will slide into it and lock in place

^ Looks like the OP needs a 240 lower console type radio box.

IIRC there's no support brackets in the lower central console to hold it in place. If a radio box isn't used, the head unit can be mounted on the transmission tunnel via a bracket and then a black facia plate made to fit over the front of the radio and cover the hole.

Later 240s did have their head units fitted up top where the space for the accessory gauges usually fit.

You may need to use same aluminium angle, or pad it out with a few lightweight wooden pieces, or something like that to hold it in place … the standard stereo isn’t a standard (single-DIN or double-DIN) size. I don’t know if you can get kits from somewhere like the US or whatever, but the fact it’s not a standard size is why you’ll need some sort of fascia to fill in the gap.
