I’m planning on using an electric vacuum pump on the rally 144 to provide vacuum for the booster and heating controls. Has anybody done thes? Pump recommendations or avoids?

jrhendo I would recommend you grab the pump and vacuum switch setup from a p1 Volvo. They're pretty robust

@timbo - Do those pumps just need 12v to operate or some kind of CAN signal?

If a P1 vacuum pump needs signals from the evil CAN bus to work, the vacuum pumps as used for the cruise controls on 700s and 900s may be an alternative, since they don't. It might also be worth salvaging the plastic vacuum tanks from these cars, or from a late 240; they're a lot lighter than the big metal football vacuum tank as used in 1974 models.

I’ve got a plastic tank in my 1973 142. I might just swap them over. Meantime I’ll keep researching vacuum pumps.

Not can bus, just give pump a power and earth. You can easily wire up a relay triggered by the stock p1 vacuum switch. Same pump is used on heaps of euro cars and it comes with a decent bracket with rubber isolated mounts.

Thanks for the info, good to know.
