89 740t hp won't idle on startup, cranky to get moving until warm, after running about 2 minutes cuts out & is cranky to restart, if it does stay running its like its only running on 2 cylinders & pops & farts &carrys on. When it clears up coincides with the temp gauge spazzing out then dropping to zero where it stays.
I figures cts or wiring, any bright ideas?

idle control thingo totally blocked or wirimg to it shorting. Had that happen on my old 740t. I would certainly suspect the wiring under/near the manifold.

Yeah ICV is the place to start. Start by cleaning it out with carby cleaner.

I'd look at the ignition lead from the distributor as well as the sensor connector on the distributor as well.

Has complete new dizzy and hall sensor and wiring etc. Likely needs leads. Coolant temp sensor (front one which is 2 pin...) fixed the stopping issue, Still cranky to start and for the first minute or two then all ok. ICV is coming out this arvo. It's the turbo + which is a cool looking setup but is faulty in some way (like it does absolutely nothing other than add weight) so it only managed 5 psi, mbc and 14psi later and it actually feels like a turbo volvo!

ICV made a small difference to it stalling out but its still a shit to keep running when cold, cleaned throttle body as it was well gummed up. Haven't looked closely, is there a cold start injector etc with lh2.2?

First time you hit the key it stalls, second time fires right up but feels lean as hell until it warms up a bit, like any load & it stalls. Also in 4th or 5th up hill with foot well down so lots of load it feels like a miss which it does a few times then usually stops. Any ideas what it is?

A Volvo 740t? :P

I get that with mine too. It went away when I switched to browntops.
volvodriverman
Interesting, thanks James will swap in some other injectors & see what happens.
volvodriverman
To do away with the resistor pack for injectors do you just jump contacts in the plug?
jamesinc
Basically, yes.
jamesinc
See the attached pic - the red wire supplies power through the ballast, so you'd need to jump the four other pins onto that wire to bypass it.
Tigabu
Pic?
jamesinc
It should be attached to the post. I can see it!
jamesinc
Here it is again, embedded for you Tiga:

Rawrsome!!!

Wait. I changed to browntops and didn't touch the resistors. Didn't need to. Sounds like distributor issues to me still. Mine had done it in the past. How are the plugs?
jamesinc
Yes to clarify - browntops are a low-impedance injector and do not require any modifications to the resistor wiring.
volvodriverman
Great, thanks for that, I've got some v70r injectors somewhere which I believe are high impedence hence the question. VQ, yep I agree, yet to replace it all, plugs are wrong heat and pretty grubby and leads are old and mismatched. The gt does the same thing with everything new in the ignition system but still on greentops so maybe it's a combo...
