I am in the process of diagnosing a weak washer pump and I'm looking around for potential universal washer pumps that I can swap into my 940 with a bit of wiring work. I'm going to continue trying to fix the existing ones but I'd like to explore universal pump options because OEM ones don't appear to be easily/quickly purchased locally.

Ideally something that has commonly available connector types or spade terminals would be ideal, to make it easy to splice in to the original wiring harness.

There's various pumps out there that seem like they're a potential fit, with a bottom-facing inlet and horizontal outlet with terminals on top, like the Febi Bilstein 23113, but would need to source a pigtail.

If you've done this before with a 740/940 I'd love to hear what you used.

Most of the time when I've had problems with washer pumps, it's because they have debris in them. At its most extreme they stop turning completely.

I found the best way to restore them is to put a pipe on both ends, put both pipe ends into a bucket of water, and then power the pump up with 12V, then reverse polarity so the pump runs backwards, then go back and forth, back and forth, you can add some dishsoap to help too, and repeat until it's happy.

I had a feeling you were going to say exactly that 😃 I saw your post saying along the same lines when I'd done a search about this, and since posting I did have some success with cleaning out the old one, it was still pretty anaemic.

I happened to be at an Autobarn buying some other bits and got chatting with a bloke behind the parts counter, and they happened to have a single item on the shelf that looked like it might be a good fit, and the packaging was pretty weathered, so he reckoned it was a special order that had been abandoned. I took a punt on it and bought it, as it was cheaper than I saw it online for, from elsewhere.

The model is a Nice NWP791 and fits a heap of different vehicles, including (now that I've checked):

    Volvo - 345, 740, 760

I used a male 2-pin bullet connector from my parts stash to make up an adapter so I didn't have to chop anything. Pressure is significantly improved over the VDO unit, so that's something at least.
