Hello to you all. The alternator gave out on my 74 145 a week back and there is nobody left who will take on a rebuild so I bought a remanufactured replacement. It is made by Pure Energy and has model number 13038. Everything seems to be fitting together nicely (with a couple of adjustments but I am left wondering about this piece (a condensor I assume). Here is the old wiring as it was in the vehicle, filthy and corroded. The green arrow points to the piece I am wondering about
And now here is the new one wired in, without final cable alignment and adjustment. I have highlighted the screw on the back that seems to be there for the purpose of holding the condensor However, the screw has electrical continuity with the whole body.
My question is whether I should isolate the base of the condensor from the body of the alternator or if this is supposed to be the way. I have looked all through the green book without getting this info so if any of you out there could shine some light I would be most grateful. Warren
