XC90 D5 with 180,000kms on the clock. So 2 weekends ago during routine engine oil and filter change, I decided to have a look at the throttle body - got the shock of a lifetime! (Photo's attached). It was full of gunk which was surprising as the car seemed to be going fine with decent power and no DTC's. Lets just say I spent 2 days cleaning the throttle body, the "L-shape" plastic intake pipe and the part of the EGR that I could reach. I did not remove the EGR. This is a very dirty 🙁 I've noticed the car idles better, better crank on cold mornings and better throttle response after this clean.
I'm currently not in a position to remove the intake just yet as I want to do this when changing the gasket, swirlflaps and possibly injectors at 200k however someone has recommended doing a chemical intake clean as the intake will most certainly have carbon deposits. Has anyone here done this and were the results worth it? Still learning these D5's having moved from a 2.5T last year.
Cheers!
