Way back last century, I put four Finer Filter socks over the inlet tubes of the 144's twin DCOE Webers after I got utterly sick and tired of those stupid little clips falling off the Lynx paper filters.
When they did that, the filter would fall off (of course) usually at speed on the motorway or in heavy traffic where it's impossible to pull over (of course).
The failure of these retainer clips to retain meant front cover of the air cleaners let fly, which would in turn liberate the paper elements from the carbs. So, they fell down.
And since B20s aren't a cross-flow head design, meaning the red-hot exhaust is directly below the carbs.....
Yeah. Since I'm not a fan of automotive barbecues, you may understand why I despise the things.
After the benefit of 38 years' hindsight, were I ever masochistic enough to put Webers on a B20 again, I'd modify the original B20B air cleaner intake to attach to the DCOE's inlet tubes, and then use an off-the-shelf B20B paper air cleaner element. Then I'd have the benefits of an easy filter replacement that wouldn't prematurely and randomly fall off, and the bonus of having a good cold air box for the intake.
