Have asked before wondering.Anyone had success pulling apart and repairing a series 1 s40 or similar headlight switch? Have pulled apart one cleaned/lubed etc and its working again( they lose low beam headlights). But have done same repair on other failed switches but still no low beam headlights. It would be good to find out what causes this as it's scary to lose your headlights with no warning. It is a problem with the switch itself, when it happens you can get high beam only headlights by holding the high beam stalk in continuously, otherwise your in the dark, although the "parking lights " in headlights are on( next to useless whilst driving). As a matter of interest I always drive this car with the headlights and daytime running lights on.In other works headlight switch always in the on position. Thanks all
Troubleshooting
I think it is always to do with the switch wiper not making good contact with the rails.
Usually you need to disassemble everything completely, including removing the contacts so you can clean the little springs that sit behind them. Dissolve all the old gummed up grease, replace with dielectric grease, reassemble.
Thankyou for posting up reply.Yes have pulled apart a switch done everything suggested and that got it going again. But another one did all that as well but still have no headlights, all cleaned with electrical cleaner, all contacts cleaned and tracks cleaned and buffed all springs checked etc etc all lubed up with dielectric grease..Strange as all the circuit board, switch, contacts etc etc seemed complete with no broken areas.Maybe I will have to rig the circuit board up to 12 volts and check it with a test light to check its continuity before reattaching the front switch panel and contscts.
New switch NLA anywhere that's why I'm repairing what I have.Actually I have successfully repaired 2 switches, doing as suggested. But 2 other switches doing the same thing still have no headlights.Funny thing is both those that didn't come back to life are ones with a front fog lights accessory button, not that I can see what that would have to do with the problem
Would you like me to try to find a new switch for you?
Yes please need one for front fog lights thanku
Can I have your VIN please?
Ask @iceton1975, he had a spare phase 1 switch module for me back in January. You can't get them new anymore AFAIK, at least nit the one I needed (with headlight beam adjust and both fog light switches)

Thanks a lot ideally looking for the switch for front and rear foglights
Any luck Thanku.Cheers
No longer available sorry
Best try your luck with a second hand switch
Thanks for trying it's appreciated.
I think in the first instance just try rebuilding the switch again, and check the tracks and wipers are seated right, making contact etc. If they are, and it's not working, then it would have to be an issue at the connector maybe, there's not much more to the circuit.
Thanks for input.I haven't had a chance to go over again one of the switches that didn't come back to life. But I will meticulously see what happens asap.
