B230 engine swap into '75 245

Just wondering if a 1988 B230F engine will fit a 1975 245 wagon with a 4 speed gearbox.

Physically yes it will

But you will have to wire up (or replace the whole wiring harness) to make it start

The fuel and ignition systems are totally different

So why do you want to do this engine change? It’s a lot of work for really no gain at all.

It will fit just fine, but you will need to bring the accessories (alternator, power steering, a/c compressor) from the B230 with it, the B21/23 brackets won't line up on a B230.

If it is an LH-2.4 B230 you will also need to cut a notch in the bellhousing to make space for the crank position sensor.

If the donor B230 is automatic, you will also need to find a flywheel with the trigger wheel cutouts on it so the crank sensor still works.

You'll also need to get a catalytic converter added to the exhaust, as well as a bung (just before the cat) for the O2 sensor.

Yes these are some of the things I thought might be involved so I will probably not attempt it but instead restore the existing engine in the 245. Thanks for all those details. Much appreciated. Cheers

it is a great idea, i javd done it.

if it as '88 model engine it will most likely be LH2.2, the lesser capable ecu though no need for a crank angle sensor nor flywheel.

it takes a little doing, as above all engine bolt ons need to stay with the engine and some wiring needs doing.

once done it is a massive improvement on acarby b21. mine is lh2.4 and rocks. reliable, easy to maintain, well worth a bit more research imho.

I've done the LH2.2 B230F conversion from a worn out K-jet 2.1 and the results are chalk and cheese for the better.
