I need a couple - for outdoor as well as for indoor (inside the shed) use.

What does the Oz Volvo Brains Trust recommend?

My experience is 99% outdoors:

I have been buying the ones from Aldi when they come up.

Otherwise the blue ones from Supercheap when they are on special.

Went to Autobarn for one for the Crown a few months ago. Ended up being cheaper to buy an indoor cover and an outdoor cover than one “indoor/outdoor cover”.
Seems to be working well for the car in the carport.

Cheapies from ebay were complete garbage and self destructed in about a fortnight.

Even if you do the straps up tight, they last much better if you weigh the cover down. I use old motorcycle tyres for their combination of weight, cost and lack of sharp edges/hard points.

Depends on what you expect from it I think. Dad bought an exxy one which he thought would keep the car clean while parked outside at work, instead it just ground dust into the paint whenever the wind blew.

The aim of the outdoor covers is to keep leaves and water (and possibly snow) away. I have to exile a project car from the shed. Soil dust isn't an issue round here, but there is enough wind, so it may become one.

The indoor cover will be for the ES, which will live in the shed, and I reckon a dust cover would be nice.

I have also found aldi car covers relatively durable. For something higher quality, $170ish will get you an autotechnica one. I have the perfect cover, this is it on my old P80, it's actually a Land Rover cover, a good friend of mine got me it for me from Jag/Land Rover in the UK, it's what they use to transport their show cars around the world.

It's worth spending the extra to buy a hail resistant car cover.

Panel beaters are expensive , no g mention dealing with insurance companies

I was told that outdoor car covers need to be washed down every couple months to improve their longevity.

I use Autotechnica Stormguard on a couple of my cars, though they are both in garages/factories. They have a soft inner layer that probably helps reduce scratching.

The hail resistant covers I've got have a black wet siute type material sewn in with 4 vents at each corner of the roof that are covered with a folding flap so that the cars paint dosnt sweat under the cover

Thank you all for the feedback.

The Autotechnica covers seem to be the preferred option from others' experiences. Given how temps round here lately are getting rather polar lately in this otherwise pleasant island state, hail protection needs to be considered.

That Land Rover cover looks awesome, but unfortunately I don't know anyone at JRA. 😉

(or if JRA even exists any more....)
