XC90 diesel choice

Hello Volvo folks

I've just had my XC90 V8 stolen and was wondering what to replace it with, when I realised I want another one but probably a diesel this time.

I notice that from MY 2011 the power and torque go up a bit and the fuel consumption goes down, according to the figures in Carsales at least.

Does anyone know if the later models are significantly better to drive? (Would I notice the difference?) Any reliability issues?

Also…why didn't Volvo put the twin-turbo diesel from the XC60 into the XC90?

Hi. I have an xc 90 2014 diesel and love it. It is the r design with a polstar tune. Fun to drive easy to service very comfortable and the fuel economy is very good for the weight of the vehicle. Bill

Thanks Bill! That's good to know. My preference has been the Executive over the R-Design, partly because I wanted all the toys like ventilated seats, but also I thought the suspension on the R-Design might be too firm. When you say "very comfortable" are you talking about the seats or the ride? Thanks

The suspension is firm but predictable and the seats are firm enough for good support on long drives.Being elderly and having a titanium spine I have a fairly good idea of what is required for comfort. If you bought one I would be very surprised if you didn't like it. Dont forget to service the haldex at about 80k. 2014 is the last of the Gothemburg xc90's.

Thansk Bill, that's very helpful. I'm also elderly, according to my daughter at least, and appreciate a good level of comfort, but not at the expense of poor handling. I will keep looking!
