Good evening all,

I Recently converted my 242 to 134a, by means of new compressor, new lines, new drier. also adding two fans to make condenser more efficient.

Essentially replacing everything but the TX valve and evaporator.

this worked fantastic and was rewarded with ice cold air, this lasted around 3-4days and now it seams to be not blowing as cold, I am assuming a leak in the system and will test for this in the coming days.

Assuming it isn't leaking (I will test) what should I try next? surely TX valve and evaporator is up to the task if I had cold air at the start?

I have read about people adjusting txv to suit 134a, is this the next step? (edit)

A few things,

If it was working fine then stopped it was most likely not a failing TX valve, though could be one now.

Quick checks:

If it was charged with R134A then a workshop did the gas charging. Take it back and ask.

A couple of tests you can do are:

Check the sight glass on top of the rec/dryer, if it is new you may need to peel off the little dot of plastic. With ac on are there bubbles moving through the r/d?

Is the compressor cycling on and off? Not sure where you live (NT?) so testing may be tough in winter.

I assume all of the seals were new for everything replaced. The two seals on the TX valve may be leaking though a vacuum test should have been done to test these.

Cheers for info, having checked pressures and noticing the txv freezing over looks like the auto spark that gassed it did not add enough (800g) , put 1.4kg in (head pressure well within safe range) now running cold again.

will see how consistent it stays over the next few days
