240 door lock removal.

How do I get the driver’s door lock out of an 89 244 with factory central locking?!

The black plastic part stops the sheet metal “horseshoe” retaining clip from coming off. Image description

I assume this means that I need to remove the black plastic part, but I can’t work out how to do it without damaging it.

This was all in aid of finding a mystery problem with the central locking, where the car would randomly lock and unlock itself.

The problem was the insulation on the bottom of the door lock contacts had degraded and the wires were randomly shorting against each other.

Heat shrink to the rescue.
