Tyre, disc & pad recommendations

I have a 2009 XC70 D5 that requires new discs (rotors), pads & tyres. It has Good Year Efficient Grip 235/50 R18 97V tyres that have done well. I use it to drive long distance and for ferrying the kids around. Can anyone recommend preferred replacement items and/or sellers? I'm happy to try non-OEM parts and different tyre, as long as they are all decent quality. I'm looking to maximise efficiency. I'm located in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne (Point Cook).

I’m in Willi and have gone to Berry Motor Group and Voldat for ny on 23 years.

Mark at BMG can get genuine or other discs , the Volvo has 2 year warranty on all parts. They stock everything on shelves.

Pads too.

Tyres? Mmmmmm. I was always Michelin but my tyre guys in Willi North got me on cheap but sticky ones that they put on BMW and Audi , X5 and Q5 etc as nobody needs 250 kms autobahn tyres. A quarter of cost…. On my XC90 V8 been brilliant.

Alfa Tyres in Champion are Willi nah, tell em Les said to come there. They bend over backwards for me time and again and hanging out talking they treat all comers with utmost care and offer the service you just don’t get anywhere anymore. Love these guys!

Actually if you ask the father or son, they might have a guy to do the brakes….. Such a community there in that industrial area.

I've been using Vmax for discs (Campbellfield, VIC by mail order) - on my XC90 every non-oem disc has been warped after half a pad, but the Vmax rotors have been great, with Bendix Euro pads.

I also had a great run out of Michelin Primacy tyres (at least 100,000km each set) but they're crazy expensive now. Current tyres are Falken Ziex CT-60 which seem to be as good for quiet, comfort, grip and even wear…but half the price. About half way through their life at 45,000km so wear is OK as well.

I have a 2008 XC70 D5 that does a lot of Kms and towing, I have kumho tyres(can't remember what model) in the standard 17s, and I've just had a set of Pirelli scorpions fitted to the optional 18s, seem to be really good. The P2 XC actually came with them from now.

I redid the front brakes on mine recently and about to do the rears, I used bosch discs I got locally and they have been fine, I used hella pagid pads on the front and they aren't great, I'll probably change them for something else soon, the bosch ones seem to get good feedback.

On my 90 i used discs Mark supplied (BMG) and bought pads from Rockauto as cheap and post all together less than local for quality. A semi race pad they had on closeout and not back in stock yet and less aggressive ones for rear . Never had the discs warp. I believe the mechanics at Berrys suggest the P3 discs warp when ridden hard and hard on the brakes at a stoplight or some such thing

Haha , im just reading they were track use pads , id forgotten! I did look at my discs earlier and note a lip forming! Maybe too aggressive for street but they are ohh so easy to modulate from speed , nice feel and super strong when you need. Its my first foray into performance pads and they are back in stock! Ill get more , better check pad wear soon……….
