940 starting issues

I’m after a bit of advice in regards to my daughter’s 1994 940 GL. It has had issues starting over the past 4 or so months and we cooked the battery by repeatedly charging it when it was dead. On the advice of the local mechanic we had the alternator and battery replaced. This worked for just under a week but now it’s not starting again. This time though it’s not a clicking noise when the ignition is engaged but a grrrr, grrrr, grrrr noise.

Is this now a potential starter motor issue?

Further detail to above - we have gone through 2 batteries hence the reason I assume the mechanic replaced the alternator.

You may well have cooked the starter motor. But firstly I think that it would be a good idea to use the on board diagnostics system to see if you can retrieve any stored codes that may indicate why it is that the car is having starting problems. I assume here that plugs and leads and distributor cap and rotor are all functioning correctly. To use the on board diagnostics, see for a guide on how to use it. These engines should start quite easily and are typically very, very reliable. Good luck with it
