A l w a y s grease the hinges on olde cars.

OMG…couldn't be as bad as the $350 eBay special I drove back from Traralgon many years ago…clutch hose failed when I hit traffic so I had to drive with no clutch. That was fun!

carnut222 My funnest post-purchase trip was in The GoaT (242GT) driven from Adelaide to home (in the Blue Mountains back then) with a bad head gasket and a worse exhaust.... The requirement to stop for water got shorter as the journey went on - every 5 hours became 4, then 3, then every two.

The HG problem didn't get too bad until I was nearly home.; the front muffler let go of the rear pipe about 20 minutes from home.

Guess we can mark this 244 as sold.

Alfasud , 4 barrell carby that blocks up.

Ide stop in unfortunate places , usually when the car was downhill and had speed (1.2lt boxer) and swap plug leads to backfire it through carby to clear it out…..

Bought used brake pads from Formula Uno wreckers on the hwy going into Geelong from Melbz.

It was epic fun on the road from Lavers Hill towards Blue Johanna Beack on The GO Road and theres a fast long downhill and over a bridge on a creek thats one car width , a car was coming on the bridge as i gor speed down the hill and just cleared as i got there m the Alfa go hart steering made me alive by jogging me right and through the bridge…..Such fun. Until it stopped….

I kept a box of matches just in case….

carnut222 changed the title to SOLD! [Gumtree] 1989 240GL sedan auto $1000 or offer Geelong need gone ASAP .

I paid a bit more for my sedan and thankfully not as dramatic on the 100 km trip home, overdrive dodgily stuck off, driveshaft centre rubber support half hanging out and crappy rear brakes, crappy battery causing issues and off course the bloody radio didn't work…

but at least the air-conditioner worked…

Ex850R I had an Alfasud too, a fun little car.

Motorcylist pulled me over one night with some concern, informing me the car was on fire. The Oil Pressure sensor was dripping oil on the extractors and making a nice fire trail in its wake. Must of looked spectacular.

jamesinc it appears to be two issues, the lead that connects onto the positive battery battery terminal that powers the whole efi system was loose, the 10mm nut on the back of the terminal stud was about to come off completely, I cleaned it up as best as possible and tightened up the nut and that issue seemed to go away, then occasionally it would stall on over run, which appears to be because the intake gasket is totally falling apart and leaking.

The overdrive wouldn't engage so it was reving at 3500 most of the way home but it made it.

The rust around the front screen is a little worse than I expected but overall seems tidy enough and worth saving.

Haha, I was fortunate that mine never failed apart from the carby it was only fast going down hills but the handling like a go kart I’ve never had in any other vehicle , such a competent car!!

I did consider putting a rotary in it……

Fire to keep you warm! Mine was freezing inside in winter and overheating in summer…..
