Volvo V8 Cross Plane Engines

What’s different between cross plane and flat plane?

I thought only the race v8 and the Noble had the flat plane.

From what I can gather it's a Yamaha thing from when they took their 1000cc MotoGP bike and redesigned the crank to make it sound like a ducati.

So in Volvo's case I'm thinking it was to redesign the timing to make it sound better and produce more power.

Flat plane versus Cross plane , not sure.

I'll do some search tonight.

The consumer motor doesn’t have flat plane I meant to add too, only the hipo race and noble.

Unsure if the outboard motor has it or not, yet it has inlet and outlets swapped from what’s in car motor.

And the first outboard was like 5.2 litre the second maybe 5.9?? Two revisions larger anyway…
