XC70 D5, build 02/2010
Hey everyone,
So, after sinking a lot of cash into getting some other issues fixed on my wife's XC70… it then started leaking coolant.
At first it was just a litre or so in a long trip, then it was a litre in an hour, and that's when I took it to my mechanic, who said that it was the EGR valve leaking. He said it was just one part of it and he could hopefully replace that part but after a few days he rang and said it was a no go and it had to be the whole EGR valve, which at the time he could only find new from Volvo.
He offered to try to bypass it, which I opted for. He said it may only be temporary, and he was right because it worked great for about 4 weeks but then it threw all its coolant all at once.
With the price of the new valve, I considered just ditching it (despite being deep in on this car now), but after a week or so of hunting for a different car, I've decided that it still might be worth it to fix.
I rang my mechanic back and said "OK let's do the new EGR" but here's the problem: His garage is about to be sold (it's not his place), so he doesn't want to get involved in such a job at this time.
A few people have suggested certain mechanics in Wollongong who are meant to be good with Volvos, but I've found them to be a bit sketchy.
My questions are two:
1. Can anyone recommend where I might do this within 90 minutes or so drive (so yeah, Sydney and Moss Vale are both in) that will do a good job?
2. Does anyone have any recommendations in particular about replacing the EGR valve in this car? (e.g. Can one from a wreckers be used?)
Thanks in advance - cheers,
Lamont.
