In my efforts to get my newly purchased, rather neglected S40 on the road I have hit a roadblock.
The car is a 1999MY S40 T4, the engine has a manual timing tensioner so a later engine code which had some minor revisions I believe.
The car was purchased with an ABS light on and a non-functional speedo which I thought would be as simple as a wheel speed sensor. I had discovered that the front RHS speed sensor cable had been severed by the spring as someone had failed to secure it. Repairing the sensor has since fixed the issue with the speedo but the ABS light remains on.
VOL-FCR is reporting the issue as "ABS-421 Inlet valve Left rear wheel, valve coil circuit fault"
I had read that the ABS module itself is to blame but I'm unable to find any information on the Phase 1 s40s. The ECU appears to be different to the ones used in the 70 series and later 850 models and I can't really figure out a way to remove it from the car without removing the whole assembly.
Wondering if anyone has had experience with this model in the past with a similar fault? Would a simple brake bleed resolve the issue somehow? Is there any way to manually test the valves? Easy way to pull the ECU without removing the valve body and pump?
I just can't find any resources online and any help would be greatly appreciated.
