Changed oil cooler but still lots of black oil

Hi all
Trying to fix my Duaghters 2007 d5 XC90
Found lots of black oil in the expansion bottle, like put your finger in an it comes out thickly coated.
SO I found an oil cooler and changed - Guess what same issue
There was some coolant in the sump and will need to check again tomorrow to see if it is back there.
Anyhow would appreciate some advice before I dive in and change the head gasket. Not sure how to compression test it? Are there any other things that might cause this.

Any help/advice muchly appreciated would love to have it up and running for her.

I am in Richmond area Sydney, Happy to supply beer ;-), and maybe $ for assistance, bit tight on budget since just put an Auto in it.

Pressure test the cooling system

There has to be a leak for contamination

ramrod Thanks obviously a leak at the very least from oil to water

Once the cooling system is contaminated with oil it can be painful to flush it all out. Did you use a product like Mangold oil stripper? Flushing with water isn't enough to get it out

timbo Hi & Thanks, yes and ran motor with hose in tank to lift out oil, seems to keep coming. Morning will tell when I open the sump drain. If no water in sump could be just a hell of a lot in the cooling system.
I have heard the head gaskets are rock solid and it seems to run fine, so doesn't seem to be a compression issue. I have heard that the oil and water passages are a fair way apart as well.

Didnt see oil in sump however oils is oozing out of the expansion tank. I did put in a second hand cooler so I will bypass it to be sure just in case it too is faulty. (that would be my luck), If that dosnt show the issue I suppose its head gasket time.

Any opinions?

Its the system still full of oil , stripping out the oil takes A LOT. (i know from a garage doing it wrong on a D5 , ended up new radiator and transmission as it was the trans fluid in the coolant.)
Just doing topical flush wont cut it.

Ex850R Thanks for replying. Unsure really. with the cap off and running it seems to be a constant flow out the top. I guess around 100ml per min. dosnt seem to want to stop. OK so the oil floats to the top but I would expect the whole thing to stop even with oil in the system it is only a finite space. I hear what you are saying about the flushing. Can you upload videos here?

Tomorrow when I bypass the cooler I suppose I will soon know if oil comes out of the cooler., or at least rule it out if it doesn't.

So its BLOWING out all the coolant? Mebe it is the breach in the radiator btw the oi cool coil inside and its the oi pressure pushing it out?

Ex850R Its Black engine oil, that would be auto oil I would think, I dont think engine oil runs through the radiator.

Hi I though I would start a new thread on this. Having found oil in the coolant reservoir and changed the oil cooler made no difference. So I bypassed the oil cooler to be sure and still have the same. Can someone give me an opinion the only other thing I can think of is Head gasket ?????
Obviously pressurized oil is weeping into the coolant channel somewhere.

It just keeps coming....
The flow creates a constant film of oil that float on top of the coolant. There is water under there so it is no all filled with oil. SO with the oil cooler by passed unless there is any other oil/water passage must be the head gasket.
Any advice would be gratefully received

Could have kept original thread.'
When the D5 we have was damaged like this a half dozen flushes with special cleaner and coolant and water etc etc di not get the oil out , you need to do more.
