  • Volvo 740 Turbo Project

I'd not bother with a manifold. fit a bigger turbo. Your ecu is going to hate you either way as it is anyway being lh 2.2. you will have more issues with blowinh up gearboxes before you need a custom intake. Its not a restriction to these Engines For street cars.

Where are you located?

I doubt the e36 coilovers Fit. Guys in the states would have done it by now. And just checked. Nope. They are bolt uo to hub style while 740s are one peice strut and stub axle and hub.
yeah ill see how i go eventually there will be a lot more stuff going on in the engine bay and i didnt even think about the bolt up hub style saw it on another forum haven't tried myself ill have to work out something else
If you go on turbobricks there is rough guides on how to do it. The civic coilover kits on eBay can work. Or kaplhenke.com sell good ones.
ill check out turbo bricks hopefully can work something out
Out of curiosity, how much boost were you running? I'm currently running a bit below fuel cutout
You will be safe Darcy as long as you run 98 BP at all times.
Yup I always run 98, last time I went to Gippsland on my way up to lakes entrance, bairnsdale has 100 octane at one of the servos I believe, I recall putting it in the GL last time I was up there.
That would have been united. Which is 10% ethanol, And they don't have it anymore.
i was running a dual stage boost controller low was 10psi high was 14psi i know its a bit high but was gonna do a conversion in the first place wasn't going to be a b230ft at first until this new motor came up real cheap changed my mind, was looking at a different conversion but it always ran 98 octane
Fuel cutout is around 15 psi as far as I know, and I'm running boost just before fuel cutout so that would mean that I'm running 14-15psi as well, did you develop piston slap before you threw a rod through the block ?
blondejay;50671 wroteThat would have been united. Which is 10% ethanol, And they don't have it anymore.
Theres a service station in Bairnsdale that says "100 octane" on the pump, I filled my GL up with it last year!
Some pumps still say it. But fuel cut on most is 12psi. Turbo plus goes a bit past it. Stop pushing it until you do your basic servicing and set the timing right.
are you sure. thats a year ago. ive watched all the 100octane stations change to 98. late last year.

i went searching for when i went for my dyno earlier this year. they all no longer have 100octane. well thats melboune anyway.
United took out 100 as it was confusing to some with 95 , 98 and 100 at most bigger sites.
You could do 30/70% E85 & 98....
Ive done about 10% e85..I would not put any more in a stock car with unknown injectors. Derailing his thread!
Thats a cool project. Wish I was that competent with a spanner / knowledge. Agree looks great in red (Ive only ever seen gold ones!
Darc i did notice a piston slap sound about 2 days before it blew but didn't think much of it my bad i know new motor should go alright if i can find the right parts i need I'm trying to find some bigger injectors if anyone knows any places in nsw and thanks guys red does stand out i was just lucky enough to find this one with immaculate paint work seeing how old the car is saw a few silver ones before i got this but no where near as good
Calvin is selling a set currently. But nissan injectors suit as well. You don't need bigger with a stock turbo. Especially with an aftermarket computer.
won't be stock turbo much longer decided to change my plans a bit and try get a bit more performance out of the good old b230ft
Going for a custom manifold as well? T3/4 turbo?
yes my mates making one very soon to fit a high mount garrett 2871 or garrett t04e haven't decided as of yet
I have a 90+ manifold I can sell ported already.

Hey I'm not far from you! Ill be going for a Haltech in the summer. If you do yours first I should come by and learn a few things!

been awhile since I've posted anything so far I've gotten all my parts except a oil temp sensor and an o2 sensor which will hopefully be here in a week or so its booked in for a tune and dyno in august just with the standard ecu with a piggy back i highly doubt it will make the power I'm aiming for till i go bigger turbo etc etc but hopefully will make at least 150kw
a year later
hows this project coming along? Old thread, i know, just curious.
I made 160.8rwkw on a td05-14b 15psi solid.
13mm rod rear thrust bottom, 531 Ipd T cam + timing gear advanced 5deg.
Factory intrcooler and manual.
150rwkw, It's achievable. Most were thinking 110-120kw before my run.

I'm well past that now, and still pushing lh2.2 well past it's limits. Based on what "locker room chat" says.

Been a long time since ive been on here thr project has been abandoned for the last year as work a become priority but next year it will be done as of now how it sits its now got the motor completely finished down to every sensor , manifold , turbo etc still working out my airbag suspension setup and wiring throughout the whole car fingers.crossed the car goes in for paint in late February
Havent got that far as of yet but off memery theres a guy in newcastle that can do it as he has done a few of my mates cars
Ah Dam your all the way up there.
Are you required to have an.e-leveler for engineering like we do down here in Vic?
Yes it has to have self leveling to.be an enginnered up this way which I have an avs self leveling setup for it and that doesnt work I also have a dakota digital haha
As a matter of interest, how do the bagged cars handle? Never thought about it really, I like if it could do the look and ride as well as decent handling.
Kool project!

It, just like coil suspension, really depends on the intended use for the car.

You can purchase low height, high pressure bags. With the intended use for track and spirited street use.
That's something I'm looking at with my.wagon
