Massey165 recently purchased a C30 with a bent front passenger side strut. Car has had a hit in the front, only very slight damage to guard but wheel has 10 plus degrees neg camber and is rubbing on the strut. the wheel has very minor gutter rash. There is a more obvious gutter rash on the the inside rim. Would a hit on the inside be able to bend the strut this far. Appreciate any comments.
Philia_Bear The damage to the inside of the rim would have been from the rim hitting the strut while still turning The only way I know of to do something like this would be from tbone type impact I'd pull the rim off... I'd expect it's somewhat oval
Glen3199 Hi,This may be a bit left field!! I cannot imagine how a front on collision would bend the strut in transverse direction! I have seen similar damage on another male where the car had an extremely heavy landing! After getting airborne In that case not only did the shocker bend requiring a new insert but the Stub axle bent about 5 degrees upwards creating significant wheel alignment issues (rear wheel drive) it was the stub axle damage that caused the wheel to rub on the strut housing!!!
Philia_Bear Glen3199 I'd expect damage on both sides if it went up in the air... but agree on it being a possibility
Glen3199 Philia_Bear in the case I was quoting the car landed on a large rock on its front left corner! Damage was to left front suspension! The lower control arm was ripped out of its mounting! Later inspection found that the impact was sufficient to have opened up the roof weld between A and B pillar on the left side with cracking back to C pillar above rear passenger door!!
