There are 2 UK companies that can rebuild and re-calibrate the VNT units
its about $500 inc shipping and they will also rebuild the turbo at the same time

Sorry bruce v50,
Not on forum lately but it was with vida or scan tool that can activate the unit / moniter to operation.

Hi Folks - been a bit distracted lately. Will be back on it this week :)

Been doing a ton of reading and went back through the service history.
I have a broken Swirl Arm Link which seems to be fairly common. Had a flashback to a conversation with the guy who used to do my servicing and he wasnt too sure whether it was needed at all. He wasnt able to source one at the time too.
Could that be causing my issues? Vida codes are coming shortly too.

Odd name, but see if there is oil around the turbo, it could be moving around.

We replace those swirl arms all the time. You may have the early type (they were updated to be more durable but still break) which may be why your mechanic couldn't source one. Our local dealer keeps them in stock and they are only $35. It will bring the engine light on and may cause your boost issue, as they sometimes jam up against the head. Occasionally the part of the manifold that the swirl arm connects to breaks which would be a bigger problem. If you remove the arm it should prevent it from jamming up and is safe to run without it until you get it sorted.

Almost a year later and everything has finally been sorted. Turns out it was the throttle module - Mark @ Berry was a tremendous help. Sorted me out with a refurbed unit, found a gear selector to replace the one that jammed and broke from too many manual shifts, alignment and a service and it goes like stink now. Mark made a passing comment along the lines of "we'll program it up" which I assume would be software tweaks. Either way it was a very pleasant reunion.
Thanks for all the help - having the ozvolvo sticker on display probably didnt hurt either.
