Update - I've found a 1974 145 and purchased. She's a Barn Find! Details to be revealed later! :-)

ATF down the spark plug holes has a good chance of giving you enough compression to start it

Pull the fuel pump fuses, take plugs out and crank away. For fun you could leave the plugs connected to the ht leads sitting on the rocker cover as the fuel is atomising out of spark plug holes

Plugs are out, cleaned and left to dry overnight.

Plugs quickly cleaned last night and left to dry. Before putting them in this morning I took the fuel pump fuse out and turned er over a couple of times. Plugs in and... no go.

I think these plugs have had it. They're foulded.

Will drain the crankcase and refill as too much fuel might of got down, and a new set of plugs.

Varnished old fuel strikes again!

My latest theory - Oil is too thin as fuel has got in. Not enough compression so wont fire up. Will stop into a servo and get some new oil then perform a drain and fill tonight in the dark and cold.

Indeed she is. However, she's been very rude and split the hose that goes between the main fuel pump and the accumulator, resulting in fuel going everywhere. It's not an easy fix in the wind and rain and with my hands cramping. I want her able to be driven onto the transporter. She will ship either Wednesday or Thursday - I find out tonight.

Got it started.

Checked fuel distributer piston.. stuck again! Unreal. Fixed that.

Oil changed as I suspected fuel got into the oil.

Still didn't start.

Chucked old plugs in and it eventually started. It had to clear its throat for a while.. seems ok now.

Fouled plugs probably the biggest issue.

Next challenge is driving it to Prospect. This will be interesting!

Gave it a quick rinse then drove it over to AScott Automotive Restorations (https://www.facebook.com/ascottautomotives/). Made it there ok. Transmission performance a bit average but discovered the fluid is a little low so will top that up during the week when I go and visit it.

We decided to get the back left damage repaired while it's in the shop and get a professional cut and polish done. He will leave the waxing for me to do.

Getting exciting now!

I will clean out the back shed this week while it's away so it has a nice dry home to go into when it returns.

I can't stop thinking about the 145. The mojo is back! It was so nice to drive it yesterday.

I’ve been a bit lax on the thread updates but it’s getting new steering box and suspension right now, plus 1-2-3 ignition and I’m booking in to have tyres swapped off the steelies onto my ATS rims once I’ve got it back.

Suspension is getting powder coated as part of the process. Thanks to @timbo

Ta mate. I’m trying to not got crazy with changes or modernisation but it will be lower when it comes home and rear end is getting Koni adjustable shocks too. Fronts aren’t as fancy though, but limited for choice and Bilstein was too much for the budget.

sorry for chatting in your thread Al. But worth while to think about if upgrading the front.

All good.. go for it. I need something volvo 140 related to read while I wait for the body work process to happen.

I'm sure after driving granny spec for a while there will be an urge to tweak something in the suspension area.

He might have but I don’t recall the conversation. That’s awesome though. Especially seeing Koni no longer lists a front set, that said, if you go to Monroe’s web site you can see they list 2 other vehicles on the same front shocks as 140, so I’d assume you could do some cross referencing to find a fit that way.

Yep that’s what I did, while cross referencing off Gabriel and others. Konis part number is 80-2156sp1, gaz is around $320 from the uk which are the same as chris’s Shocks

145 ready to collect tomorrow. But it'll be dark, wet and cold by the time I get home so will get er on satdee morn.
