Update - I've found a 1974 145 and purchased. She's a Barn Find! Details to be revealed later! :-)

Decided to have a night off from car work so no further progress. Realistically I should have it all sorted on Saturday morning. Pic from the other night working under the bonnet with a bedside lamp lol. Volvo addiction getting out of hand perhaps?

Not at all! I have a bedside lamp (the kind with the bendy neck) on an extension lead that lives in the 240 at the moment... really handy to be able to direct light into the inner recesses of the dash!

Not at all - you're an inspiration! I still need to go and get metal bits for that 145 o'mine. While I'm here (near Albury NSW, for a funeral) it might be time to see what the local wreckers have around here.

A round up of yesterday morning's work..

Cleaned the air intake area with a vacuum, damp soapy rag and applied some lubricant to moving parts.
Refitted the fuel distibutor.
Refilled the engine with fresh oil.

..and away it started. Been starting great all weekend.

Exhaust needs some attention next.. patching holes and re-attaching some mounts that have come off.

Air intake system nice and clean. They were quite filthy before..

Gave the Ol' Wagon a good vacuum, it took a long time and came up well. Put all the extra bits and pieces, loose and broken trim into a storage box.

The tartan rug looks quite at home in this thing.. Vintage!

Great work Al, she's cleaning up very nicely... and very quickly too (well, lots quicker than mine).

And on that front, there is a very long trip in my future this week. I just don't know the destination yet. Either to the wreckers at Orange for pleasure to gets bits for Chloe the 145... or it will be a lot further afield on a Yumbo Yet on business, which means no early Christmas for Chloe.

Cheers! I had to slow down the pace a little the last week.. The boss (misus) wasn't too happy about the long grass and the unfinished pantry. I didn't see a problem lol. She doesn't get the old volvo obsession.. However our 1 year old girl is as obsessed as I am with the old car.

So what stage is Chloe the 145 at? Did you get to the wreckers near Albury?

My wife and I were in Albury for a funeral and I was hoping the weather was going to hold - it wasn't, so we tried to get home before the fog and the storm hit. Which meant no time to stop at wreckers en route home.

Chloe is at the same stage as she was months ago, unfortunately - needing love, time, and parts (specifically panels and paint )in copious measures. In our hearts, she is loved... but, um, well, like any demanding mistress, she needs a lot more hands-on lovin', and since Chloe and I are presently having a bit of a long-distance relationship, she hasn't had the same amount of attention which I've shown to a couple of others which, ah, I've had up here on the side. Of the.. um, road.

The 145 has always taken some effort to start and now it completely refuses to go. It cranks and cranks but wont fire up.

Fuel is pumping. I can hear the fuel pump. I can smell fuel. Remove plugs and they are all quite wet.

No spark. Removed a plug and with a lead attached I strapped it down so the plug end was grounded on the engine, cranked over and no spark.

Points were cleaned and gap set by the mechanic when I bought it a couple of months ago so I presumed there would be no issue here.

All fuses are good.

12v getting to the coil.

What I replaced:

Leads
Distributer cap
Rotor
Spark Plugs
Temporary swap of coil from my brother's 81' Volvo 244.

Had exact same issue with my 144, it was the points and condensor

Looking very good :) Am jealous of the tacho. I have yet to convert my 6 cylinder one to 4 cylinder, though the face has been done.

Newbie here! I like the look of your 145 so much I signed up :) I was on the lookout for one in Hobart for much of last year but couldn't find anything. Hopefully a nice early one will turn up in a barn for me sometime...

As you may know I have two one early (in tassie) and one late in Queanbeyan NSW.

Hi All! I'm back! Had a bit of a break from cars over Christmas and New Years. My daily driver (Audi A4) is requiring some attention of late so funds are being directed that way. However I've managed to clean out a shed and make a Volvo Den so she's safe and dry. See Pic. I plan to keep going on the shed and seal the floor and make it decent. Hopefully in the next few months I'll have the 145 sorted enough to pass inspection and get it on the road.
