egads;5863 wroteIf they are bits I can get from the red one tomorrow let me know. That one is going for scrap value and mostly for scrap so I can still pillage.

Thanks gents, Really I'm after both front struts, complete with hubs rotors and calipers.
I had regular access to one of our customers 850Rs for a while as well as a pair in the workshop on the bench, but I dont have regular access to that car anymore and the ones in the workshop are no longer here.
I'm keen to get started on another project and do some final mockup fitting to confirm everything with our first production run of caliper adaptors.

I think I almost have this (maybe minus rotors) in the shed in pulled from a 98 C70 form. I will look tomorrow.
AshDVS
I could probably get away with that. condition is irrelevant. It doesnt matter if they're completely stuffed - I just need to be able to measure/strip/cut a few things from it.
Cheers.
egads (she/her)
Cool, then they will be perfect as they are pretty shagged. I will let you know.
Ex850R
Ash , welcome back! I have the struts I can pull from my 850 , the rotors went onto my x70 (waiting for bbk... :)>- ) but the 302s are there , I don't have ability to get hub off though , I could get the 5" cutting wheel onto it I spose.....My 9" is out on loan. I will try to get em out the next couple days as I am keen to scrap the lot asap. Let me know as my brother may be up here so he can bring em back to Geelong? Give me a call?
AshDVS
Mate, actually the complete struts with hub still attached would be perfect, if the calipers are there too, that would be even better.
We can do a swap. I've got the 240 ones sitting here for you too.
Our 320mm kit is hopefully not too far away. A lot of the other businesses that we rely on are back or just about back now too.
I hope to have the first new sample back in the next couple of weeks, I'll test fit it all on the bench again, take lots of pics and build an installation process/manual/document and once I'm happy we'll do a volume run.
I've got a good contact for genuine Ford parts now too, so where genuine parts are required we will simply be able to source from wherever is cheaper (Ford or Volvo).
Ex850R
Fantastic! I don't mind being a test pilot!
I can cobble the struts up with the bits needed , actually one I have the spring off but don't have spring compressor , don't think k that matters to you for the job at hand?
Bloke , you can have whatever you need , the 240 ones I don't need now , I sold the 245 to simplify my life...... I am sure some Bruce would love em !
Oh , since I used the 850 discs to replace the worn v70 ones which were 302mm the caliper brkt is wrong as is the disc , will this stuff up calculations? I could swap em back , I think I had a mil or two left on the 302s that way you would have 850 stock brakes.
Do you have springs for 850/x70? Rob or myself are after a set.
AshDVS
I just need a pair of caliper brackets - dont care whether they're for 280mm or 302mm.
Regarding springs, yes. We are a reseller for H&R, so no problem at all there.
Ex850R
Are the H&R nicer than the IPDs I have? It may have been the Koni adj fronts I had that were too harsh but I hated my S70T5 round town with em on....
AshDVS
Definitely a better spring. A little firmer.
Yours is a common complaint with the koni sport adjustables, particularly on the 17" rim with quite a low profile tyre - 205/45/17 etc.
Combine that with Australian roads and the rather aggressive standard bump and rebound settings and it feels harsh.
The konis are only single adjustable too so you can't really 'dial' it out to the extent you would need to in order to make it a pleasant experience.
When new, quite a few 850Rs were fitted with 16" wheels, post sale to address customers reporting a harsh ride.
You could attribute this, maybe, to -
1/ lack of local, market specific, suspension tuning.
2/ lack of understanding of local market demographic
3/ Too big of a contrast between newer, firmer, characteristics of the (then) new gen cars and then older waterbed-like suspension characteristics of the previous cars
You could argue that the 850 was too big of a jump for the local volvo-loyalists at the time.
Ex850R
Yeah I thought so....Good summarisation!
egads (she/her)
My bits is only struts and control arms so getting off Les is the best bet unless you want the parts red V70 which the guys didn't want. You can have it if you pick it up.
egads (she/her)
Car is sold btw if title can be edited?
Ex850R
Yeah sorry to hijack the thread!
egads (she/her)
No bother on ye hijack, car sold through Gumtree.
AshDVS
Thanks for checking for me gents. Les is probably more convenient geographically anyway. Will work it out in the next couple of weeks.
I'll close the thread and we can discuss in another one if required. Apologies for dragging this one OT.
