Ok so Dvs springs being fitted on Monday , what now to improve performance around $1000 to spend 1983 240 gle auto 120000 kms so don't want to change engine any suggestions ? Keep saving to turbo it or spend on Dvs cam ect ? How much would I need to turbo it ?
Rob
Manual conversion...

She would notice that :(

To turbo an 83 takes more work and time and therefore money to do than a later car. You need a computer from a turbo car and wiring. Don't bother with pre 1990 turbo parts unless you plan to change the manifold again in the future for a start. And the computers and wiring for the pre 90 cars aren't very good when you want to make more power. that's for a start. Where are you located?

Yarraville

Save money and do turbo later
There is not much chance of making over 90-100 kW at wheels on stockish na motor

Manual conversion is the best thing that you could do. It really wakes the car up.
morgan
The cost to turbo ?
Philia_Bear
You need a 89+ 240 to get the wiring harness
And then a full +t setup
If you look around
Probobly 1000-2000 in parts
morgan
So you can't fit a wiring harness onto my 83 ?
Philia_Bear
You can
But many many hours of time

83 244 = K Jet mechanical FI so a VX3 cam would be the best investment, or a A cam from say an 85 kurt model.
K&N filter a slight benefit, magnecor ign leads cap etc.
ipd has these items.
Your lucky having a low km engine, so Mobil 1 is more than recommended, most affordable at Costco.
The biggest enemy is hauling all the weight around, mainly the air cond that weighs a ton back then.

^this. It was a pretty big pain in the arse fitting lh2.4 into the gt (1980) when I turbo'd it.

Mobil 1 imo is a waste of money nowadays. Penrite hpr15 is pretty good for these motors in daily use and is full synthetic too.

So how much for a m46 or m47 gear box and all the bits needed ? And approx cost to fit ? Manual may be the way to go going on all the research I have done
Philia_Bear
Parts can be anything from $300 for a running car that you can drive home to $1500+
Just depends on luck
Donner car is always the easiest and mostly the cheapest option
Also agree... run the thing on penrite HPR10
morgan
I don't want the whole car I can't hide that !

Berry can sell you all the parts for a manual conversion.
Turbo conversion -- I can help with labour.
morgan
Will berry have parts for turbo conversion , will mark at berry fit the gearbox as well ?
Dauntless
An 83 would have either a K or A cam, but probably a K.
