the guys on here seem to have a fair passionate hate for the XC70 series especially the 00-02's, and that may be for good reason, transmission failures in these cars seem to be dime a dozen, as does everything else it seems. I actually own the same car (albeit a 2002 model) and I have like a 16 page post on that thing as well. It is overall, fantastically reliable, very comfortable, quiet, smooth, extremely good at drinking petrol and for a car thats pushing on 1.4 tonnes, very nice to throw around bends. Surprisingly capable off road as well.
In saying that, I dont drive it much anymore, if at all, because its sitting in my driveway with a somewhat dying transmission.
Other issues are mainly wear and tear items but stuff that probably shouldn't be failing on a 13 year old car with 117000kms on it.... Here is my current list:
• Right hand strut top worn
• Both inner tie rods faulty
• Both lower control arm bushes split
• Water pump leaking from welsh plug
• Left hand puddle lamp not working
• Left hand mirror power-fold not working
• Right hand parker light not working
• Right hand light working intermittently
• Drivers heated seat not working
• Drivers power window mechanism worn
• Mirror control switch damaged
• Full wheel alignment and balance required
• Interior indicator stalk intermittently cutting out
My car was always serviced (prior to me owning it anyway) at Volvo dealers with no expense spared and yet I still inherited a bit of a list. In saying that though, I still love the car and it's still a great car. No other car, not even in the Volvo range quite fits the bill of what I want in a car. This one is just right so I'm willing to keep throwing money at it to keep it running.

Clearly the trans were problems with them, but what else should I be looking at?

Everything....
Ignition Coils fail
Heater core fails
AC clutch wears out
Angle gear
Drive shaft (AWD) CV's fail
Front drive shaft boots
Sway bar end links
Front spring mounts & bearing plates
Front A arm bushings
The T5 motor is mostly reliable
As for all of that stuff, most of that isn't unique to the XC70 series, for example heater core and ac clutch wears out on the P80 (850/S/V70) series as well. Surprised mine is still going actually. As long as it's been reasonably well serviced and continues to be reasonably well serviced, it should keep going. The motor is solid. Personally I wouldn't drive mine daily in the city cos it burns out the transmissions, and if you do, I recommend fitting a cooler to it or something and doing regular fluid flushes to keep it... you know... alive.
