I read that a while back.
Ideas in the 850 were ahead of their time for the day. There is an old Clarkson review of the first NA..and he liked it. The 850R in the day was pretty quick 60-100mph it is still not embarrassing.
The longevity of the concept shows it was well though out in the first place, Volvo did the same with the 240..
