So I have an '84 240 wagon, with some money about to be coming again I thought I'd better start working out a list of what to do to make it turbo.
So will the stock n/a k-tronic handle any boost (4-5psi)?
And after that, is turbo k-tronic, lh2.4 or aftermarket the way to go?
Initial thoughts were to get turbo, manifold and intercooler and run on low boost till i've collected parts enough for a proper decent build, if anyone's done something like that would be interested to hear from them.

Factory 240 Turbos ran K-jet...but a modified form.
Certainly possible to do, but not as simple as bolting on a turbo.

@Spac might still have the rsport +turbo kit for 240's.

A stock 84 model will love to ping at the best of times. The 10.0:1 compression ratio is marginal for a +T on most motors - add in Volvo's poor mid-80s combustion chamber/wide squish and you have a good recipe for sweet, sweet detonation... I reckon you could make it work, but the time taken to sort the K-jet would easily outweigh the effort to convert to carby or (preferably) EFI.
The factory turbo K-jet set-ups had the flapper plate before the turbo - as I'm sure you're aware, they're radically different to the NA set-up in layout.
IMHO, LH2.4 is probably worth the effort of the conversion. Converting to LH2.2 or Motoronic doesn't seem to be worth the effort to me. I dunno - an old MT-series Microtech is worth sod-all, and seems like a better option, despite their limitations
I do still have the R-sport blow-though turbo stuff, and it is still for sale.

cheers all, i'd heard a few people say elsewhere that they ran low boost on stock na k-jet but thought they were probably full of crap.
looks like i'll try find a used motor from somewhere and begin on an efi build, megasquirt is looking appealing now, do it once, do it properly i guess
Spac
Megasquirt is not properly. Every install I've seen has had big problems with electrical noise.
The excuses are amusing, but don't make cars run better, either.

interesting, i was liking the idea of being able to have control over what's going on and hadn't heard the noise complaints, i wonder if better designed filters would help. as it stands i won't be running anything for a while so i guess ill keep researching

I have a LINK unit with all its wiring and instructions. CD etc , I can get the model number if you want and a price of course..

Brendan has MS working pretty nicely in his 240. Not heard him complain about noise, but Brendan is the kind of person who probably took a lot of time to set it up to work properly.

I remember going to the south coast with Brendan, and sitting the whole journey with a laptop on my lap, tuning the car as we got more data.
I think that tuning it from scratch is a difficult proposition; it's almost like a carby in some respects as there are so many variables (altitude/air/temp/engine temp/engine load etc) that we can't easily tune for.
Vee_Que
Ms3 has an auto tune function.

I don't think Greg changed the engine management on his SC build, could be worth checking out his articles:

yes there is a auto tune feature in the megasquirt tuning software, it cost $60 to unlock, from what i have read it is pretty good as well.

@Ex850R I maybe interested in said link ecu... :D
