Have you put in a bypass relay on the main fan so it's running at 100% all the time while your on the track?

This made a massive difference on my wagon for iat when I started tracking it

nope, although at QR where average speeds are pretty high (they don't call it the paperclip for no reason :P) I can't imagine that would make too much of a difference. Might give it a try anyway though, put it on a switch so I can toggle it at will.

EDIT: you've given me a great idea, going to stock up on some STC switches from the Bay of E and see I can give it an OEM-esque install.

You would be surprised... I found with the 940 Wagon (running no grill) that has a much larger opening then a S80... that the fan on high made significant differences to IAT and trans temperatures when even doing 110KPH+ while under heavy load

It already does this anyway, in fact if temps are above 100 when the car shuts off the thermo fan will continue running until temps drop way down, even if you take the key out and lock the car.

Depends on if everything continues to work as it should. Switch or bypassed to on is a good failsafe in my opinion.

Fair enough. I wanna do this now as a project anyway since @Philia_Bear gave me the idea haha, just gotta get an STC button off eBay since it has the little indicator light in it.

I use the rear fog light switch on the S80 and most any other Volvo
I've never used the dam thing once and its got a light and its easy to re-wire to do your bidding
The light is separate from the switch contacts so you can have the light also come on whenever the fan is on regardless of switch position

I do hope we get hot season like a year or so ago when it was 43-45°C for a week , love the heat....

Hearing high vs low is hard to my ears in the large new well soundproofed Volvos.

The S80's fan is pretty quiet for an engine thermo even when going full tilt, you have to be either standing next to it when it's on or be in the car with the windows down, radio off and not moving or moving slowly to hear it.

The balance of today's activities:

Replaced the upper radiator hose.
Replaced the rear right taillight with one that wasn't crazed.
Replumbed the boost gauge properly and added an inline filter. Did a write up on that over on Matthew's Volvo Site.

Just gotta wait for the heater core to arrive before I roll the car into the garage to replace the lower hose, heater core and rear camshaft seals. Then I can flush the system, refill with fresh coolant and be back on the road.
