The red-headed stepchild of Volvo - Boden's 1999 S80 T6

So, after 2yrs of deliberation, procrastination, saving, indecisiveness and working, I finally have a car to call my own. It's a 1999 S80 T6, with a full service history and only 148,000km on the clock. Picked it up for a steal at $3500, and it's in pretty decent condition. First S80 I've ever seen in Tropical Green too. It does have a bit of paint damage on the plastic boot garnish, and the interior has some wear and tear, but nothing some TLC and a weekend won't fix. Fairly grunty for a barge too, won't set the world on fire but it's enough to give Skylines, S-chassis and turbo/V8 Falcodores a good scare. Will eventually get a trans rebuild and some stock R34 GT-R turbos or something to replace the tiny little TD03-08G stock turbos, should be decently responsive, and be able to net me my eventual 400-450fwhp target. For now, exhaust, wheels, tyres, dampers and chassis bracing should make it more enjoyable to drive quickly

As long as trans gets good rebuild kit
It will be a good car for a long time
Forget more then 350whp unless you want to do lots.more to the block and engine over just some turbos

Yeah will be getting a Triple Edge Performance street/strip rebuild kit. 400whp will be achievable without cracking the motor open, Captain Bondo of Volvospeed was making 450whp+ in his T6-swapped 240 on a stock bottom end with no issues, then he put rods in and cranked up the boost and made 500whp :P

He had tons of time into the head and the manifold was worlds nicer than anything you could ever hope to fit into an S80 engine bay
Also he went through 3 blocks before he found one that wasn't already broke from stock power...

p.s. I have a T6 in my 940Turbo... I know this motor well
I also have 3 spare complete T6 motors and The Poi's complete turbo setup just cause I wanted to make sure no one else got it...

As for manifolds, if I went single I'd probably build something like S8ET6's manifold, which uses two down-facing manifolds, then a pipe that links the two to a single turbo, kind of like a tri-Y header, but for a turbo instead :P

When I got my C70, it had 150' kms and a good service history (Volvo specialist in Sydney). I still found that by doing a full stage 0, fixing small boost leaks and adjusting my wastegate to the standard setting, I was able to shave over 1s off my 0-100 times.

In short, these newer cars often respond well to some love, and it is quite rewarding going through your car and learning about it. I highly recommend it :-)

Yeah I plan to do that, going to save a bit of cash first then buy a metric buttload of parts all at once to save on shipping compared to buying in dribs and drabs, considering it's all coming from Stateside. It was only just serviced recently by GLT Car Center here, so I'm pretty confident that the basics like fluids, plugs and coils will be a-ok, at least for the time being.

Yeah I'll probably throw a bottle of engine cleaner in it sometime in the next few weeks, run that for a day and then drop the oil and change it for some nice good stuff. What oils are you guys using in your cars?

I use penrite. The whiteblock would use hpr10. Upper Engine cleaner is good but oil flush for a day.... I wouldn't longer than an hour.

You shouldn't drive with the engine cleaner. Follow the directions on the bottle, maybe longer idle time if you are mad keen.

Probably should have used better wording :P
By run it I meant throw it in there, let it idle for a bit, shut it off and let it soak for an hour or two, come back, fire it up again and make sure it's still mostly warm then shut it off again and drop the drain plug and filter and get it all out. Might have to investigate if the oil pickup o-rings have been replaced because I get that little bit of tapping at idle that goes away as the engine warms up.
