Hi Volvo people,
I'm Mal and proud owner of a Mistral green S60R with orange interior.
I've owned a couple of 850r,s and now this s60r.
I'm a true Volvo lover but need this s60r sold.

Or take my $50 and be done with it!?? ;-)
Note that a good service history and dealer software updates will sell this better than anything.
Rob
is it mistral green or flash green? i dont believe there is such thing as a mistral green S60R?
Atacama is my favorite interior
Ex850R
Buy it Rob?
Bigger turbo...
Manual it and weheeey!
Rob
Flash green + Atacama is the rarest colour combo for an S60R. Manual box would put it in unicorn territory.

Hi guys . See you have found a photo of my baby.
Thanks for getting the comments rolling.
I'm all new to this forum thing.
What you see is what you get. It's solid tranny and all. I know because I've personnally been all over it.
Good service history and last couple done by myself.
I think with regular oil changes these transmissions should be fine. Volvo say fill for life but we all should realise that means short life. Same with right angle drives diffs etc.
Oils cheap compared to consequences

Has the angle gear collar been replaced with the updated version?
When was the last time it got a software update at volvo?
Rob
I would love it, means I would have to find a buyer for my C70 though...
Ex850R
Go on Rob , advertise that C70 and see what happens!

Brand new angle gear from Volvo in October 2014. I can only assume they would only carry updated versions givin the probs they had. Not sure about the software update. I've never had one. I've inly had codes read and cleared. It had a stuffed fuel presure sender.
Rob
I want this car.

You'd love an S60R.
As Mal said he's had 850R's before, and to me the S60R/V70R was the top of the tree for the R's.
I found that my 850R was cool and all, but the S60R just takes it to a whole new level.
To me the 850T5 and the 850R are not that dissimilar.
But the S60T5 vs S60R the differences are enormous.
Don't be worried about the '5 speed of fail' typically they fail less in R's than anything else.
No one seems to know why, but its probably because people who bought an R paid to have it serviced and realised it wasnt a 244.
I really like the 5 speed. Manuals in traffic are kind of annoying, but this GT thing seems to fit in the middle well.
It doesnt snap into different speeds like a DSG or manual, but it will hold where you stick it.
They lock up in 3rd 4th and 5th and thats where these cars can really put the power down.
After getting used to it i find the 4 speed in my 850 is very lacking.

I would be keen on the auto in these Rs as i dislike manuals in the city and my old 855R manual was a poor effort at ratio matching , the clutch very heavy on me sore knee!
I would love a wagon!

This thread is different to when I last saw it.

Good morning guys.
Lot of talk about the gearboxes in these Rs. I have actualy had this one stripped down when right angle drive was replaced. Was like new inside and replaced a couple of bearings while it was down. All back together with Castrol transmax E .Have receipts and still has warranty. Feels great and do it should . Expensive process.
Engines power in 1st and second to protect gearbox.
Like cam said its not until 3rd that they truly come alive with the limits off. I love it . Hard to take foot off after overtaking.
I've never tried the speed limiter out (250) but have been close a couple of times.

Agree..
The AW55 autos have a better life in Rs because of two things:
1) The first two gears are torque limited
2) AUS delivered cars came with the external trans cooler (In front of the LHS front wheel)
Like anything, if you abuse the car (repeated hard launches or no fluid changes) trannies & angle gears will crap themselves.
I tune can remove the torque limiter if you'd like more shove!
The manuals have more issues - slave cylinder leaks which takes out the clutch and higher frequency of chewed out collar sleeves (between trans output shaft and angle gear input).
Angle gears on earlier cars were affected by a few issues:
- leaking (from the case halves and/or seals)
- blocked breather vent (new breather design implemented)
Flash green and Atacama is rare combo here.
The car looks in great shape.
Good luck with the sale.

I agree trannys fail a lot less in the R range because they have a different class of owner, Still don't forget I Bought the 05 flash green for $8000 off ebay, so prices do vary the cheapest I have seen an 04 V70R was $3500, the wholesaler in SA didn't know what it was.
Even crashed cars will get $5000 plus at the auctions
