  • Wanted: Pair of headlight holders for 7" Rounds

I am after a pair of the headlight holder units for a 7" rounds conversion. I have the lights and the black plastic body piece, but nothing to put the lights into. Attached is a pic for reference. I am located in Melbourne, but arrangements can be made if interstate.

-Scott
Are you going to move to early style guards too?
I read on kjet.org that all pre-86 guards are the same. Is that not correct?
That's only true of the US market, where they delayed using the later front end for five years, probably due to some of their crazy DOT lighting laws.

In the rest of the world the panels changed to the newer type in '81, so if you're going to the full early front, you need guards, and the lower valance that goes above the bumper, from a '75-'80 model.

I have this pair of early guards available:

No rust, but one of them has a dent on the wheelarch that will need to be repaired. I don't have any early lower valances left, sold my last one on the weekend.
I think the headlight support panels may have changed at that time too, I can't remember, but I have a pair of early ones if needed.
Angus are you talking about the black plastic things that I already have, or the bits pictured above?
This is getting spensive.... Will the 84 bumper fit alright to those guards?
I wonder if the Narva 7" LED lights would fit in?

From memory the early 240 lights were the same size as the ones that were used by Volvo Truck at the same time, and in the UK it was cheaper to get the lights from Volvo Truck than Volvo car...
I'm referring to these panels Scott:

They may be the same between early and late front ends, I can't remember.

The plastic bumper isn't a direct fit with the early front end panels, but can be made to look neat enough, by modifiying the brackets.

Here's my 242 back in it's glory days, with the early front panel work, plastic bumpers, and an R-Sport spoiler:

The lights for the early 240 front end are standard 7" round format, so there are lots of aftermarket options.
The single rounds on my '78 245 were about 7 1/4" . I have a nice new pair of Cibie H4 7" lamps I had to put in the 245. No way.
The best way would be get some 7" lamp holder with adjustment like from Ford , Toyota etc and mount that in there.
Or convert to HIDs in a projector body mounted in the old Volvo lamp and polish out the flutes/Rodger that make the glass lense for light aiming....
Not as hard as it sounds , its been done on VS when doing this for 850s. The oxide used for bugging is from eBay or craft/classwork shop.
Makes the changeover more interesting...
I just have away a set of the lamp holders too but you don't want to hear that....
GLE spot light grille as well with spots.
I did have them up for sale for ages though.
Mark should have some stuff , he has and is wrecking some old 240.
I'm starting to feel a bit bummed with all of the work/cost that will be involved to be honest. I love the look of the early fronts, and would want something a bit unique on my car... But is it worth it? I need new bumper, Guards, valance, bonnet, in addition to lamp holders (and fancy LED lamps... Thanks PaddlerEd!).

Will I need anything else? Do old style guards match up with the doors?
TELL ME THAT I'M PRETTY!
:)) the guards do match up to the doors and body, so no issues there.

You also need the rubber trim for the lower valance that covers the gap between it and the bumper, I've got a couple in good condition. I can't think of anything else you'll need.
Get a body from someone , cheaper than bits...
There aren't many left, I've been keeping my eye out for early parts cars, and not much is coming up lately, I think most of them are gone.
I gave all my left over bits to Angus, who would have known people would want them so soon!
Yeah , whe,n the urge for a big clean up happens some mistakes are made....
Mine went to another Bruce who may part with them?? My memory precludes me from saying who though....Apologies.
