Cheers Julian.
I have a complete car with squirter and 531 :D
Philia_Bear
I am slightly keen....
Is it round tooth?
Slowbrick
I dont think any of the FX were round tooth. The thing that makes an FX an FX is a VX cam, 531 and the type of LH 2.4 tune it had to make it make 100kw. I could be wrong though.

@Samman88 may want this.
I'm using a B230FX as the basis for my 760's new engine build, it came from a '93 240.
It has:
Oil squirters.
Round tooth belt.
531 head.
M cam.
Shallower dish in the pistons to a B230F (I think), compression ratio with the 531 head is 9.3:1.

I was very close to leaving it in the car, it hit a Roo! out and ready for collection people

Mine is a FX and its round tooth and a squirter. Still trying to figure out how its in a 1992 october built 240.

How long ago did you take it out? Wagon or sedan? :-)
Angus242164
I got mine way back in '07 or early '08, from a '93 240 wagon that was at Pick-A-Part in Campbellfield. They had a special on bare engines for $100 so I couldn't leave it behind.
I stripped it down back then, but it's been in storage since then, I started rebuilding it last year. Other things keep getting in the way, but I'm hoping it'll go into my 760 before the end of this year.

But remember this is a running motor removed yesterday not 7 years ago, as with pick apart and so on, you don't know what your getting until you turn the key
Angus242164
For what it's worth, I removed the sump and valve cover and had a good look around once I had it on the ground, before making the decision to buy it.
It had 373k showing on the odometer, but has absolutely no sludge anywhere inside, and all clearances measure within factory specs. The bores still had cross-hatch marks all the way around, and still measure in the C C C D ranges, just like they were marked at the factory.
Regular servicing, and the squirters keeping piston temps down do wonders to all but eliminate engine wear.
Self serve wreckers are a great place to grab a bargain, for those who know what they're looking at.

$300 for an fx motor is a bargin period

Yep anybody looking for one at the moment should be jumping at it.

FX,FB means 531 VX. FX front dizzy FB rear mount.
In general with the round tooth belt it has squirters earlier versions square tooth generally not.
Angus compression is lower in the FX/FB. I think the piston is somewhere between the F and the FT. A 531 also has a bigger chamber lowering the compression as well.
Philia_Bear
Pistons are IIRC the same, just 531 is more volume then a 530...
nickm
Yeah I thought about that... 0.5 of the CR is more than just the chamber CC.
Slowbrick
Yep the pistons are the same as a regular 230F but the 531 brings it down to 9.3:1. They make great +T motors and mine has been running strong for about 3 years. I have no doubt that with an aftermarket ems or even a chipped LH2.4 it could make some pretty decent power. I am only running LH2.2 on mine so its limited in a few ways more than one, but that being said it still pushes 12psi through a 15g and pulls pretty hard. I paid $100 for mine only for the reason it was before people wanted them. These days as said before $300 is a great price for one if it comes with everything you need. If you have a 240 and want to do a turbo conversion...GET THIS.

It's been quite a while but I measured the piston dish on my FX, and whilst I don't have any F pistons to measure, measurements for an F piston I found on TB were different. I think I still have it written down on a piece of paper in the shed.
Mine most definitely had an M cam, not a VX, and came from a very original looking car. It's possible that left the factory with a VX and somehow ended up with the M later, but that's what it had.

Would have been worked on at some point and the cam replaced
I've got the head off a 93 FX motor in my shed... I'll have a measure tonight of pistons

End of the year Angus!? I'm sure it could be assembled in a day!
