XF and EA T5's are not WC. EB onwards are all WC boxes.
The parts manual I've quoted above says there are two different types of WC boxes.
- XF and EA = WC boxes without the tapered input shaft bearing or reverse synchro brake; and
- EB onwards = WC boxes which one, the other, or both.
Perhaps it might be time to examine
what defines a WC box:?
- Timken front countershaft bearing number (e.g. LM67010 ) visible near input shaft,
not a stamped steel shell like in the NWC
- fibre-lined synchro rings,
not bronze like in the NWC
- uses ATF / Dexron recommended as lubricant,
not gear oil like in the NWC
There are WC boxes which use tapered bearing input shafts, and others which use roller bearing input shafts - e.g. the 1352-085-025 and -050 are both WC input shafts, the latter is tapered = thus this part alone cannot define WC or NWC.
There are WC boxes which don't have a reverse gear synchro brake, and some that do = thus lack of synchro brake cannot define a box as WC or NWC.
All the more reason a comprehensive list with tag numbers and details is needed.
