Tree In the process of installing the cruise control thingy, vacuum line to servo wasn't even hooked up grrr. Really want to test it out now, any tips on where to find it? In low visibility...
Tree Upon further inspection... Looks like a renegade vacuum line. Perhaps experts can confirm if its for cruise? Edit: Just realised I posted in the wrong section. Please move as necessary mods. Thanks
Angus242164 You haven't said what model the car is, but I'm going to guess 740 Turbo from about '86-'87. That's an auxiliary vacuum pump, designed to provide extra vacuum to the brake booster, not fitted to most other models. It's unrelated to the cruise control. The cruise control vacuum pump is smaller, and usually mounted to the inside of the left strut tower, though cruise was a dealer fitted option so the location could vary. It uses smaller vac hose than that, about 6mm ID. The hose you've pictured is most likely a vent or breather, and probably isn't meant to connect to anything, but I'm not sure.
Tree I was hoping to recify this problem before my trip to Wakefield last week but alas, there was no cruising. So last week before I left I found the cruise control tee section and discovered there was no hose leading to the cruise control module as the previous owner just bunged it off with a small 00 screwdriver. Scambled thru my garage and found a small hose to connect the tee and cruise control. Took her out for a quick spin. Still not working. Sigh...call up Alex for help but it's hard to diagnose without him seeing the car. Drive back home and try the next logical step. Blowing and sucking thru the hoses. Sacrebleu! There was a split on the hose at the tee section from the hose leading to pedal box. Fingers crossed... 20km/h...40km/h...60km/h - hit the cruise button and release the throttle...oh yeahhh. Couple of hours later I'm in transit to Gouburn on the M3. Hit the cruise. Nothing. Try again couple of hours later it works. Sometimes it works and then stops by itself. Hmmm. Tried sucking and blowing again and the system is air tight. I'm guessing the module works by gathering vacuum and then keeping the spring compressed to rotate the cruise throttle control cable. Not sure what to try next. Perhaps electrical? Sorry I forgot to mention earlier, it is indeed a 1986 740 Turbo. Thanks for the help so far gents much appreciated
Vee_Que I have a spare computer and we can look over the rest as needed when you want to get the other stuff done.
