Suddenly my 740GLE has developed a huge flat-spot on takeoff. It's so bad it seems that the car is going to stall. Strangely I haven't been working on anything that could be connected with this. Only work recently been done is on the water leak to the passenger front door (see my other thread).
The only thing I can think it could be related to is that there has been a problem with a very fast idle. Once warm the car would idle at about 1200rpm. It didn't do it all the time and if you turned the car off and restarted it, the problem wouldn't be there at first. It would reappear.
I'm not sure if it is only there when cold but I will be testing it today to find out.
Any suggestions as to what it might be?

I had a similar problem with my '89 240 a couple of months ago. I cleaned the AMM with the proper cleaner and that helped a little. I then let the fuel get low in the tank and put in a lot of fuel injector cleaner, this totally sorted out problem & it hasn't happened since.

OK, I'll try a new batch of fuel with some cleaner.
How do I test the AMM?

I put the cleaner in when the tank was low to have it more concentrated.

Fiddled with the AMM yesterday, disconnecting it while the engine was running. Checked the connections etc.
I drove to a friends house last night for dinner and the problem has disappeared. But the O2 sensor light on the dash is now lit. I know that it can't be faulty as I replaced it a month or so back.
I'll get some proper cleaner for the AMM today and see if that helps.

My 245 had similar issues and having low fuel with a big dose of inj cleaner helped somewhat then I had hot start issues (lucky to have great battery) My old expert Volvo tech said it may be injector seals now.Car sold ....

The O2 light on may ijust ndicate other issues not just the sensor . Its showing a problem which you are obviously having and it affects proper fueling so gives a warning.

The strangeness continues.
Went for drive to SupercheapAutos to get some cleaner for the AMM, car dives fine but O2 light on. Stopped at the local shops on the way home and when I restarted the car the O2 light didn't come on.
I've cleaned the AMM anyway and the car drove normally when I took it out again. Will take it for a longer drive tomorrow. Maybe there's some loose or bad earth connections in Inga.

Vacuum leaks will cause issues too. Check all hoses.

Took the car for a run up the M1 today - still no sign of the problems from the other day.
Vee_Que - I sent you a message the other day about the carpet in your 760.
