  • [sold] [Pickles QLD] P2 XC70 Diesel

Not like the t5 motor has much any power above 5200rpm though

As the car is rare as....
You could actually register it in nsw
There is an exception for collectable cars and one could easily argue it would apply as that has got to be the only p2 diesel xc70 in the country
There isnt any issues with registration (VIV rules aside) because its an import is there? Because its already got an import plate, its now treated the same as any other car?
As far as I am aware, it's now just the same as anything else that is complianced in Australia.

I dont think that there is any problem registering the car in NSW, for example if you were to pass the QLD WOVI. I think it is only the cars written off in NSW that they are very strict with.

Not sure if the import plate makes any difference. Some cars can be imported into and registered in WA (bit not transferred to QLD (or other states), but I doubt a volvo would fall under those rules. I think it is just cars that dont pass certain safety tests...

Makes no diff, if its an import , I don't think you can register this car in NSW with the current laws of a car being written off it can be registered here in vic then transferred to NSW that's the loop hole
Okay so its just like any other car. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That makes things interesting.

I also just remembered Victoria recently changed the rules for hail damaged cars. You only have to repair broken lights/windows stuff like that, not the metal itself, making repairs MUCH cheaper.
Think of you are in competition with large wreckers to buy , your fees on top of the purchase price and transport down to Melbourne, which could be $500, Don't worry we don't buy cars at salvage out of state
Yeah we know that, wreckers sometimes pay rediculous money for them. I was pretty lucky with my XC. First it was the dealer mob who dropped out at $800, then the wrecker gave up at $950 so we got it for $1000. I've seen the 04+ facelift models go for as little as $1500 before, but considering this thing is rare as anything it will probably go higher.

I would be but I wouldn't be at the same time haha. Its fairly low miles and there is no serious damage on it. It's one of a kind and could be put back on the road. Would be worth a fair chunk in parts I would imagine. I'd like it because I like the sand beige interior more than the brown/taupe one in my car, plus I like all the 06 bits. Do we know if an 06 diesel transmission will work on my 02 petrol? Might just swap the whole unit rather than the valve body. I'd love to get it for like $1000, then $500 freight, $1500 landed. Strip it for parts. Or if the sister likes the diesel, fix it. Half of me think the rarity will make it go more expensive, but then half of me thinks its a Volvo and only a true enthusiast would really care.

Im gonna ask a question thats probably really dumb, but do these still have glow plugs that you have to wait to warm up before you start? (I realise in Australia these are barely required anyway but still). I never like the sound of diesels. Always a bit clattery. Had a C30 diesel in the carpark at work the other day. It was idling and sounded like a tractor.
D5's still have glow plugs, they just start a lot quicker. I drove diesels in the UK for about 7 years, and rarely had to wait for the plug light to go out, even with 5" of snow lying. We did have one particularly cold morning where we did have to wait awhile, but that was probably -8* degrees during the night...
I was misquoting a movie about diesel. :-)

My 530d has glowplugs
The ecu history says they have only ever been used once
No. Modern diesels still have glowplugs but glow faster than it takes to crank the motor. It would be a massive waste to take that auto to put into a basic petrol car. Won't be worth muxh because it's a one off in Australia though. Still a slow boat life any other xc70. Ew.
I dont understand why petrol stations dont sell Australian crude oil for diesel engines. A good mate during the 80's worked on inland oil exploration for 10 years and discovered many thin crude oil deposits that they plugged straight into diesel generators, diesel trucks, diesel everything... with no modification to the engines. Imagine how cheap they would be to run! 50 bucks a barrel. How many liters in a "barrel"? Man,you would save a packet!
Which works fine for old diesel motors with mechanical injectors. Modern diesels which use hydraulic electrical injectors fire four times each combustion cycle at over 3000psi. Even with sulpher levels of under 50parts per million in the diesel. It still wears them. Crude would ruin them very fast. Not too mention the emissions equipment that makes them cleaner to run than petrol pretty much.
if your after the sandy interior I just got a complete XC70 in for wrecking we think?, 145k on the clock
