I track the fuel economy of the 850R pretty well, and in the past two months it has gone to the dogs. 15L/100km -> 22.9L/100km at the last fuel up, and that includes a stint on the M2/M7 so a bunch of it was basically highway driving.
Anyway I would normally assume it to be an O2 sensor, but these cars have a lot more going on than the old 740 did, so I'm keen to hear any advice.
jamesinc
It's been in the 13L-15L range for ages in city driving. Considering I have a lead foot that's not bad. I used to be able to cruise it down to about 9L/100km on the highway which is what the advertised highway economy was.
Ex850R
Mine has (what I assume is ) a shot O2 , the tune I have is rich and at times it gets up to 16-19 , after the good long hot fast drive I did on a 70/30 mix of 95 petrol and 85 ethanol blend it was high 9s. Around town again up over 16, could be your o2 as well.
Mine is sometimes around 12-14 in town so quite variable.
I expect there may be vaccum leaks and that the wastegate isn't calibrated right and that the cbv leaks , the spring weak.
How good are your plugs , leads and dizzy?
New Bougicord leads make a difference for sure but not that much!?
Maybe a combination as I have.

Amm as well. Not that different to a 740 with lh 2.4 I think for diagnosis.
jamesinc
No codes. AMM is pretty new. I'll start with vac leaks as they are the most trivial to fix, then leads and coil, then O2 sensor. Does the 880 have one or two sensors?
Jamest5r_
850's only have 1 pre cat sensor, 70's generally have pre and post except for the r model that only had a pre.
Jamest5r_
Btw I'm talking pre me7 for the above.

Maybe you should stop driving around with an anchor in your boot.

lift your foot a bit off the pedal for week top it with good 98 fuel, DRIVE LIKE GRANDAD, see what you get, I can get 7.7-9 litres out of 2004 V70R with stage 2, driving it normal. When I nailed the wifes S60R around the track at winton it was about 25 litres per hundred
jamesinc
It's more that my driving hasn't changed and the fuel economy has changed dramatically.
Slowbrick
fkn wot m8?
egads
Coolant temp and 02 are the two that tank fuel economy traditionally on white blocks.
jamesinc
I found a big boost leak under the IC. A hole -- looks like it was part of the design though??
Philia_Bear
There is a drain plug that can be broken off
jamesinc
I put a screw in it
Lewchay
Have you cleaned the MAF sensor?
jamesinc
I have not... I'll try that.
I've also noticed that sometimes under hard acceleration it can go flat or hesitate for a moment. Not at the start, like when it gets up maybe half way through the rev range. Then it picks up again.

Have had experience when the car is tunned does not run as good under load ,use Volvo spark plugs not some other brand, made a big difference when we had a dyno day.

this is why i love redblocks. so primitive ;P
heheheehhehe. and RWD. ;P
shocked at 30L/100 thats intense. thought mine was bad average over 15/100 before i played with cam and ignition advance.
now average per tank is 10/100
nickm
Open road driving my 850R goes into 8.5/100, simliar driving the 740 10/100 was very good.
Round town (city centre) I'm averaging 14/100 average speed is 25km/h If I'm lucky :-O
