I'm doing a power steering conversion on my wagon and I've noticed that the ball joints differ on cars with or without power steering - does anybody know why this is the case and should I be fitting power steering ball joints to my car?

Hello all, I'm going to bump this one - can anyone send a pic of the air con unit as it mounts to the engine - I've got a second-hand unit off a wreck but can't seem to work out how it fits...
Depends on compressor type & steer pump type I think. I think there are a few versions of the mounting brackets.
Yup, I'm working my way through a parts listing as we speak... I have the large square compressor for the air, with the ps pump with the reservoir on top of the ac unit - I'd say your 242 should have the same set up...
It's that era yeah, I'll have the appropriate bits in a box somewhere if you get stuck. The gt is a bitsa of a b200ft UK 940t engine with later power steer & no air con these days;-)
Tristan, I think I've worked it out - I've got a B230FT motor turning up in a few days and I'd say that should yield the parts I need, put I'll pm you if I get desperate, or just flag down the next 240 I see!!!
