@Angus242164 is near you , he should have a dizzy?

I don't have any spare dizzy's of that type unfortunately, I do have one but it's set aside for one of my own projects.
For what it's worth, I've had one of these dizzy's fail on a B23E, in my old 242DL. Symptoms were the car ran fine when cold, and fine when warm until it the revs got fairly high, then it would stall and not restart for some time, until the car cooled down a bit.
It happened to me once randomly as I accelerated to turn onto Springvale Rd after coming off the freeway, then again as I accelerated out of the bend onto the start of the Eastern Fwy.
The second time I confirmed no spark and so got Dad to bring my box of ignition spares and we first changed the ignition ECU because it was quick and easy, with no change. We then replaced the dizzy and it fired straight up, and the car never had that problem again.
I very much doubt that one of these dizzy's would have a failure mode where it runs poorly, the internal pickup is simply a coil of wire, and it will generally either run or it won't. Failures like mine are also rare, I haven't heard of another case the same.
It's possible in theory that the mechanical advance mechanism in the base of the dizzy might have an issue that could cause your symptoms, but I haven't seen that happen before.
Throwing part after part at the problem rarely gives good results, I think you need a proper diagnosis before going much further. These cars are notorious for short circuits in the engine bay wiring harness due to crumbling insulation, so faults are often not able to be solved by replacing related parts.
I'd be happy to come at have a look at it at some stage, I may not be able to tell you the exact cause, but I should at least be able to narrow it down to ignition, fuel injection, a vacuum or timing problem with some basic checks, so that further diagnosis can be focused on the system at fault.
The only catch is I'm somewhat flat out for the next two weeks, so I couldn't have a look before that.

Hello,
I hear what you saying about throwing parts at the problem, but the hard part about my model is that I cannot find in the manual a diagnostic procedure, the other years ecu's are covered, just not mine. I have already replaced part of the engine bay loom will little effect. At this point I see few options other than replacing old bits, I will take you up on your offer to help out when you are free.
Cheers, gareth
