All T5 motors are fine/the same from those years, no difference in the block/head between fwd vs AWD
manual vs auto is all the same as well

MY99+ got VVT and an ETM which wont work for you

Depends on what you get and how many K's

Onya Mike. ( do you think playing with the ETM manifold , putting a throtle body on with a tab welded/drilled and tapped on for cable reel will give a better intake than the old R one? Have seen it done on VS ? )

Just remember, the head may need straightening and there may be other damage. I did a head myself a few years ago on a v70 that was running quite OK, but would overheat after about 30 min. The head was quite warped and I ended up spending about $1000 on the head getting it right. Add to that the cost of a head gasket and whatever else you replace. In hindsight, I should have bought a second hand motor and swapped it in.

$1500 for a motor is way too much in my opinion.
If you have the time/space/skill, have you considered buying a wreck and swapping the motor? They usually go pretty cheap, and then you have a whole heap of spares.
If you do it yourself, you should be able to get it all done for under $1000.
(PS: I bought my wreck with a good turbo motor for $700, only side damage, i.e. front (e.g. headlights) were perfect. And even then I thought I paid too much :-) )

If it is hard to find one in Melbourne for the right price, you should consider shipping one in from interstate. Up here (in QLD) there isnt much of a demand for them, and shipping might not be too bad. Although, I do get the feeling that there are more parts down south than up north :-)

As a point of reference, I shipped a gearbox up from Melbourne to Brisbane - $88 door to door with e-go.

Look on gumtree/ebay for someone wrecking an 850 or S/V/C70 turbo.

fresh t-belt kit inc water pump
