Qa1 coilovers in the back and koni adjustables in the front
Make the konis softer and the rears hard and it will feel great
The rear is stupid soft from the factory while the front is a mehh
How much driving on what sort of roads do you do?
I run really firm stuff on the tentacle wagon and used to drive it 50000k+ a year and it was amazingly comfortable as a cruiser

Most of my daily driving around the GC is done in the 740, it's my daily drive. The 960 will be used for longer trips, visiting family in Brisbane and the Shine Coast, and for any interstate trips. Neither car is likely to be on dirt roads.
How much are QA1s and won't they a bit of overkill on such a car?
Philia_Bear
overkill yes...
OMG nice though....
Mazda MPV shocks from mid 90's fit corectly and are a much higher dapening rate then volvo factory
Not sure how easy to get them here (dead easy and dirt cheap in Merika)
SPT940
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Nivomat leaf spring has a softer rate than the non-Nivomat leaf spring. The Nivomats go some way to supporting the weight and effectively increase the overall spring rate.
So you definitely need adjustable coil over dampers to get the correct ride height if you don't use Nivomat dampers.
There are few European companies which produce an adjustable coil over damper specifically matched to the Nivomat leaf spring. One product is supplied through a Swedish tuner.
I'm sure they would be able supply correctly matched spring and damper packages for front and rear.
Philia_Bear
Yes
The nivo leef was a lower rate then the non nivo
Volvo still has in stock for 3k a few sport leafs that offered a higher rate and lower ride height
SPT940
Thats AU$3000 or KR3000 (Kronas)?
Philia_Bear
Aud
Nothing volvo would be only 3000 kroner
SPT940
True that! Such good value too.
I reckon I could make one for a bit less than that. Make a mould, bit of kevlar tape and some epoxy resin. Maybe an autoclave for curing. Bob's your uncle. Job done!!?!?!??

....on that score, I measured the difference between the Nivomat & Non Nivomat spring on Saturday. The non nivomat is approx 4mm thinner and 8mm narrower, thus a lot softer. The Non Nivomat is pretty soft too, as my bump stops regularly reach the body mounted stop. Not sure if they fatigue over time, but its hard to imagine that they wouldn't!

I assume you mean Nivomat springs are thinner & narrower?
On 700 & 900 with solid rear axle, rear coil springs are 11.3mm diameter on sedan without Nivimat, 11.8mm diameter on wagon without Nivomat, and 9.8mm diameter on sedan & wagon with Nivomat (sedan & wagon Nivomat shocks are different).
