  • 240 sway bars, what options and anyone got any?

Hi there again!
I'm looking for some swaybars for my 245 I'm not sure what the prefered size is but I hear 23mm on front and rear is recommended. Give me your own imput and setups!
ive got 23mm bars on mine (or 23/21mm, something like that) which were a factory option for the GLE's. Makes a big difference.

If you're going to lower the car, it's a good time to update springs, shocks and sway bars.

From reading online a lot of people have that setup.

Well I'm planning on lowering my car with dvs coils up front and b6 struts and then kings for the rear with b4's. but I need to wait till payday and also pay off some tools. :P
19mm rear
27mm front

Anything more on the rear compromises rear end traction unless you also have lsd

27mm front is sourced form falcon taxi easily
21mm front and rear was standard on GLE's from '81 onwards, and then standard on all trim levels from '85 onwards, so they're pretty easy to find. Wagons may have retained the 19mm bar on the rear after '85, not sure.

23mm is hard to find, only used on some 242GT's, '79 only rings a bell.

IPD sell excellent quality 25mm bars, be prepared to spend some money though as they need to be shipped from the US.

Some people have used Falcon front swaybars with success, though I haven't done it myself so I can't comment.

With your proposed spring/shock combo, I'd just get a set of 21mm bars from a wreckers (or maybe somebody here has some) and see how you like it. If you find it lacking later on, then you can save up for some IPD bars.

I measured the rear one on my wagon and it was 17mm, I could have measured wrong though as I did it quickly. Yeah I called up a few wreckers and they couldn't find any.
I was looking at the IPD ones but when shipping is so expensive it will be something I do last I think.
I want to try the falcon one out and see how that goes but I just need to know what falcon to get it from.
Thank you for your input!

How do you think yours handles perfect or it could be improved?
Ahh okay.
What series?
Wagons often had the same bar on the front as the equivalent sedan, but a smaller rear bar, sometimes no rear bar at all.

Typically it was something like this:
Early cars up to about 1978 had 17mm bars.
Cars from about '79-'84 had 19mm, GLE's 21mm.
From '85 on a lot of cars had 21mm, but I did look at the bars on my '86 parts car today and I think they're actually 19mm, so there may be some variation.
An '85 245 I've got here has a 21mm on the front, I think the rear is a 19mm.
I think my old wagon had 1mm swaybars... It was horrible!
You may have had the rare coathanger wire swaybar option.
I have lots of 21mm front bars if your keen, that tells me they come on most 240s though.

Yep its is supposedly a EL/EF but check the length is similar before putting it on. I put one on that I thought was right but it was too short and it minced my brake lines. L-)

I have a 23 mm rear. Came off a 242 gt.
$150 not negotiable.
If your interested. Then get a falcon one for the front from pickapart. Very cheap. Just find the thickest one you can find.
