  • 1989 Blue 245 "Swagin' Wagon"

Hello all!

I'm new to Volvo's and build threads so I'm kinda winging both. :)
About me/story of how I got my 240(If anyone cares): Well I'm a 16 year old apprentice tech at a Volvo dealership, at first I must say I wasn't too keen on volvos(thought only old people drive them) when I was offered the apprenticeship but I thought might aswell try! Now 6 months later I love them! Especially the older ones, the 240 look just grew on me, we had one at work and I was just so interested in it.

I watched Bamse's turbo underpants and that's what got my over the line since watching that, I loved how these little swedish motors have so much potential and options. at the 3 months mark of my apprenticeship I was ready to get a car, my foreman used to work for Berry Motor Group so he had the contacts and knowledge to start my off. I looked at a few 240's, a red sedan and a white wagon but none of them appealed to me. Then one day I got a call from a worker at Berry Motor Group who had a 1989 blue 245 and that it was a friends of his who he was working on fixing as it had electrical problems and engine leaks, he had already fixed everything and the car was running great. We then organised for him to bring the car to my house and well from there I loved it as soon as I saw it I had the biggest grin hahaha. Now it's a project for me to do and maintain myself.

The car has 386,000km's, faded paint on the roof and it can't be polished out the paint is too thin, but it also looks like the car has been resprayed and a few other little things. My goal with this car is to build it aesthetically for the next year and half, make it look sorta sleeperish but also a bit drifty and once I'm on my P's build a turbo engine and drop it in on my full license but plans can change so I'll just go with the flow!

The day I got it.

Day after I got it, I installed a new stereo system.

A few fuses blew so I bought a lot of replacements because I never want to be out of them hahaha.

Took it to work and polished it.

Got a polestar badge and new tail lights, old ones were cracked.

Steering wheel and badge arrived!

Steering wheel in!

More photos to come later as I just took the ones off my computer, also I post more regularly on instagram so follow me if you'd like - elijahlaz
Not bad... What is Illest though and how does it relate to your car? I've seen them on lots of Jap cars but it's a term that makes no sense for cars.

You already have the e-code headlights on yours!
Good job!

I like the wheel! Blindingly white actually looks good!
Keep it coming

Nice one dude! I miss having a wagon, and I'm so jealous of the sunroof :)

The boss that you have looks to fit much better than the chunky one that I got from Autobarn.
A mechanic who has a white interior of any sort is one that either always wears gloves, or doesn't do work ;) (all my cars have dark interiors FWIW) :p
A lot of mechanics wear gloves now. Maybe his steering wheel will stay white? :)

It's a brand but it can also be used as sickest, but the only reason I got it is because I reckon it has a bit of class with that font hahah. Yeah but the bucket is different it's the smaller one to the usa ones and my 7inch headlight won't fit.

When I got the car I didn't know they were a volvo part, but my foreman said they're rare.

Yeah I only wanted a wagon, I just like how practical they are and when lowered hoe cool they look. I love it just another feature I scored!
I got it off ebay for close to $100 so it better fit nice hahah.

Well this is true and I'm already having trouble with this hahah, I just keep a rag on the side to wipe it every time. :P I'm just hoping to be really clean.

Also anyone got any ideas for the roof? I was thinking from the bottom of the windows up paint it black or trying get a colour match.

Thank you all for the great feedback!!!

Yep , black turret and roof .
I am going with a Swedish flag on my R roof to save me painting the scratches.
Mate does car wrap sticker printing on large format printer. Anything can be printed.
The flag may be just blocks of colour instead of printing.
I did have in mind a flag waving in the wind print but cost comes into it , not expensive but I need to spend on other things to get on the road!

That would be sweet! I actually am thinking of doing a whute roof from the gutters so it's just the top so it has a surfy kind of feel and if it's cheaper I'll wrap it.
If you need any wrap stuff done , my mate is in Sth Melbz. Good prices.
Great for big photo prints too.

Well if I could you give me his number or ask him for a quote that's would be great!
Wrapping is great. It means that you can have your own personal style but if you decide to sell the car you arent burdoned with the whole "i like the car but wtf why did you paint it x colour?". Keep it simple and you will get alot good looks. The guys at MCM loved my 240 because of how simple and clean it was. Simple and clean beats gaudy and modified to hell everyday. There can only be one coconut colin. Look him up
I like the idea of blue w/white roof. Another idea could be blue/black, with black being the colour above the side strips. The only drawback with that idea is there not being a strip across the tailgate.
@elijahlaz‌ i dont have any friends....
