Hi anyone with ideas or experience of the above. I love my 142 but after 1500kms of Sydney traffic since I bought it in August I have to face the facts working the clutch through traffic is killing my bad knee and the heavy parking steering is ruining my dodgy shoulder. Would love to keep the car, are there any steering fixes or checks that might help - I know there's electric powering steering but thats too expensive. Also anyone put an auto in one of these is it an straightforward swap or total nightmare. Am reluctant to change as it's a very original car with full history but want to keep driving it.
Cheers

I think you will find a few people that would be happy to swap you an auto for a manual. I also believe you should be able to fit 164 power steering easily enough. I am sure there are a few of us that have the required components... Where are you located?

Not possible to save it for weekend driving rather than risking getting it written off in traffic?

Thanks I am in North Sydney - does the auto fit in the manual car without major structural mods?

Already have weekend vintage car - need one worker!

I think there are some floor hump mods required in the early cars. I don't think it would be a massive deal though.
The 1970 auto would have a column shift I would assume. Perhaps by fitting a floor selector from a 73- car you would remove the need for floor mods.

Fair enough, it was just a thought.
I'd assume the auto would be a fairly straightforward swap, though I have no experience with 140s. Angus would know more.
The 164 parts should be easily available from guys on here.

I have a 74 145 with an auto that I wouldn't mind being manual. I wonder if you can make the long stick fit a 74? Either way happy to provide bits required in exchange for manual bits. Has no rego though so you would probably need to come down to Yass to do the swap.
