Astra of that year is rebadged N13 Pulsar.
Angus242164
It's an SL, so it has a 1.6L with TBI, SL/E had a 1.8L MPFI version. It's an N13 Pulsar with a GM engine and Delco engine management (the Nissan version had the same), some styling differences, and drum brakes on the back, most Nissan N13's got four wheel discs.

Yeah I think that GM allowing Nissan to use their engine and the Delco management, which was state of the art at the time, sweetened the deal where the RB30 was used in the VL Commodore. These deals meant that both companies could stay in business in market segments where the respective companies had no engines of their own that would comply with ADR37, by "swapping" their new engine designs.
Another bit of trivia is that it was built at the same plant in Clayton that used to build the locally assembled Volvo's in the '70's and '80's.
Vee_Que
And were Hsv is now and vw before both of them.

^ Stilwell motorgroup plant. Center road.
Vee_Que
That's the other side of it now Yes.
Vee_Que
Also. Centre rd.
Angus242164
It was built as a VW plant opposite the Bosch plant on Centre Rd (which was built to supply parts to VW) and produced mostly VW and Datsun stuff, but also Volvo and I think some Merc's, then Nissan until it shut down in the early '90's. Apparently none of the original plant survives, lots of more modern industrial buildings there now.

Ok guys I'm going to cancel this event. Haven't got anyone keen for a drive. So will do something on the bike that's day.
SPT940
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I was going. I cancelled my trip to Hawaii (seriously). I think Will was keen too. 960's were all up & running!
SPT940
I need to go on a drive while the juice is cheap!
deleted_user_160
I'm up for a catch up. Something Melb local? Coffee in a carpark talk shit etc?
SPT940
I wish the price of oil would come down in line with petrol!!!!
I am going to meet up with Will. He's going to change over my alarm/central locking to European Volvo GaurdII system. He says its a 14-16 minute job!?!? I'd say 30 minutes, but he's a pilot so he will always be precise! I'll just have to trust him on that.
I'd like a drive & destination in the wide open space. Somewhere to do some circle work. (only joking)
But I can always to some stuff in town afterwards!I think Will was still keen.

its not so the price of oil. the new fuel tax is starting to jack up fuel. although petrol price increase, will continue.
Vee_Que
98 is always expensive. Atm its about 1.52 a litre for bp 98. I've paid 1.72 in the past... Not that big a difference to be stressed about.
Philia_Bear
So happy my cars all run on oil
deleted_user_160
Paid the cheapest in a while. $1.49
